Andy Cave might be described as a 'climber's climber' - he's never
been a big seeker of publicity, but over the years he's made some of
the hardest ascents by any British mountaineer.
As
anyone who's met Andy or seen him lecture will know, he majors in a
self-effacing northern dryness that belies the hardness of much of his
climbing. Over the last twenty years he's visited Patagonia, China,
Alaska and the Himalayas to climb. He scaled the north face of the
Eiger at the age of 20 and made the acclaimed first ascent of
Changabang's infamous north face in 1997 with Brendan Murphy.
His recently published autobiography, Learning To Breathe,
has had great reviews and thanks to Andy's sponsor Lowe Alpine, we
have five signed copies to give away to fortunate OM
readers.
It's a great read by the way and much more than just another
climbing book that honestly and graphically describes how the Miners'
Strike was the catalyst that helped to propel him from a pit village
to a life as a full-time professional climber and mountain guide.
All you have to do is go to the competition
page and answer the very simple question correctly.
