Every so often an event comes along that grabs you by the lapels and drags you kicking and screaming through the turnstiles. But enough of last night down the pub...

No, the next big happening on the outdoor calendar is the Entre-Prises and BMC Festival of Climbing at the National Indoor Arena, Birmingham on the weekend of 7-9 December. We reckon it's going to be a cracker and the good news is that OUTDOORSmagic has three pairs of free tickets to give away for the Saturday. All you need to do is e-mail us with the subject line 'Tickets Please' with your name and address and tell us which city the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham is in.

The competition closes next Friday 30 November and the winners will be announced on the site on the Monday, but even if you don't get to go for free, it's well worth making the trip whether you're a walker or a climber - there's loads for everyone. You can get full details from the BMC web site, but here are a few highlights to whet your appetite:

World Bouldering Championships and the the European Youth Cup, and the International Open. Most of the world's top climbers including the legendary Frenchman Francois Legrand, winner of eight international titles, will be there. And what's more, Brits are good at bouldering.

Shopping there's a retail village with the likes of Outside and Snow and Rock plus loads more begging you to buy shiny new outdoor kit, some at special festival prices.
