Winter Wace Wumours Warming Up
And the organisers reckon winter mountaineers could have the edge over wild-eyed adventure race fanatics...

Our adventure race mole has emerged from his deep cover position
to reveal that the rumours of an upcoming winter adventure race in
the UK are true.
Location and disciplines are being kept tightly under wraps at the
moment, but we understand that the race will have a max duration of
72-hours - longer than 'sprint' style races like the Salomon and Blue
Eskimo events, but considerably shorter than 'expedition' length
races like the Adrenalin Rush and Eco Challenge.
Apparently, the organisers are keen to involve teams of winter
mountaineers/walkers as well as the usual pale and dishevelled
adventure racing suspects, because "the winter skills and navigation
involved will give outdoors-people with hill experience a distinct
advantage over sport-oriented racers." Our source also tells us that
the event's title sponsor is a certain well-known energy drink that
gives you wiiiings... Not Ribena then.
If we were to take a wild guess we'd say the race will take place
in Scotland in early April...Anyway, expect an announcement within
the next couple of weeks.
Adventure racing is as ever unimaginably hard, but I think I might
do this one myself with an OUTDOORSmagic team to prove that I am also
unimaginably hard. (Funny, I don't remember writing that last bit,
but not a bad idea really. Ed.)
