Yorkshire Dales Announce Guided Walk Program
Walks with a Ranger to
highlight open access
Before the introduction of the CRoW only 4% of the Yorkshire Dales
National Park had open access, but the legislation raised this to a
remarkable 62% with a further 390 square miles made open to the public.
To celebrate this, and highlight different areas of the Open Access
land, the national Park are organising a series of free, Ranger-led
walks in different areas of the park. In the words of Alan Hulme,
Ranger Service Manager for the national Park Authority, "The idea of
these walks is to give people a chance to meet the local Area Ranger
and to experience new areas of the National Park that they
may not have seen before, away from the rights of way".
The summer program includes: Longstone Fell to Rise Hill (June 4th),
Ingleborough Circular from Ribblehead (June 20th), Kettlewell (July
4th), Melmerby Moor (July 10th) and Ivelet Moor (July 18th). All walks
are free of charge, so places may be limited. For more information on
start times and booking check out the Yorkshire
Dales National Park website -
where you'll also find details of Malham Cove's new inhabitants, the
resident Peregrine Falcons have had chicks.
