'HAD ITS DAY'
Strengths:
alloy construction, tiny, waterproof, looks the business
Weaknesses:
short battery life, not bright
Overall:
I got one of these years ago before LEDs caught on, not a bad tiny torch but not very bright and eats batteries (as do all tiny halogen torches), I have a single AAA LED torch now that is lighter, much brighter and the battery lasts.... well it just lasts.

If you want a maglite then get one of the burglar killing D cell models, this belongs in a museum.

'RIP OFF'
Strengths:
Look nice, tough
Weaknesses:
Short battery life, heavy, break all the time, crap connections, weak beam, expensive....
Overall:
Really rubbish piece of kit, as with all Maglites, I have had several and all have stopped working for some reason, one even killed batteries when not in use, anothr had a really loose connection and you had to hold it in a certain posiion to make it work. Theyre really rubbish t be honest, I will never waste my money on one again.

'BIT OF A LET DOWN!'
Strengths:
Durable
Weaknesses:
The beam!
Overall:
Unfortunately not what I expected. Head easily comes off while altering the beam. Flood light very poor, hence why i'm searching for a better one!

'A LITTLE GEM TO HAVE WITH YOU ALWAYS'
Strengths:
Small enough to carry with you everywhere in your pocket or keyring, or in your emergency first aid kit. Actually throws enough light to walk off the hill with ( I walked down Sgurr nan Gillean "tourist path" with just one of these). Comes in groovy colours.
Weaknesses:
Battery life a bit short, need to carry spare for true emrgency use. Top and bottom can spontaneously unscrew.
Overall:
Although the new LED's are excellent, I still think for sheer smallness you can't beat the Maglie Solitaire.

'DOESN'T LIVE UP TO THE MIGHTY MAGLITE NAME'
Strengths:
Strong, stylish and quite sweet to the eye from a major company that will replace any faulty item no questions asked
Weaknesses:
as it only holds 1 AAA battery and uses a bulb instead of LED's the battery dies quicker then a suicidal lemming whose lost his Prozac
Overall:
Excellent build quality and gets the kudos from fellow campers but either take lots of batteries or learn to pee in the dark after the 2nd night
Doesnt compete too well against LED lighting

'MAYBE I WAS UNLUCKY...'
Strengths:
Small and light
Weaknesses:
Doesn't give much light (but then it is small)
Very poor quality-bulb failed very quickly, replaced it with spare bulb, failed again.Poor battery connection, comes unscrewed easily.
Expensive for what it is.
Overall:
Maglite are overated. I am glad to see outdoor shops are starting to sell other torches.

Metal maybe durable but I'll go with a lighter plastic model that I can always replace more cheaply.

'A SHINING EXAMPLE OF AN EXCELLENT TORCH'
Strengths:
Love the candle function (unscrew the bulb end and stand upright on base) Spare bulb in base. Dependable
Weaknesses:
low battery life, LED torches brighter
Overall:
I have a LED light and the Maglite and couldn't be without either of them. The Maglite has been soaked, dropped, bashed and generally abused but still keeps on going. I would buy another one when the time comes. Weight is not a problem and the metal is tough

'MAGLITE, SHITELITE'
Strengths:
>candle function
>adjustable beam / focus
>spare bulb (you'll need it)
>strong casting
>light
Weaknesses:
>dim
>short length of dim 'brighness' then even dimmer
>bulb blow far too easy
>far to conplicated switching system, which corrodes easily
Overall:
These things are strong, well the casing anyway, mine taken many dropping, soaking and general abuse, however anyone who swear by maglites need to try something else, something brighter, lighter and a longer run time (maybe ARC AAA LED - admittly more expensive).

The run time of these thing are rubbish, the bulbs 'bright' live span is around a few hours and after about 1/2hour the brightness is sugnifcantly less, ok, maybe this is slightly untrue. But when compared to LED's filment bulbs are so 1900's, and that is basically what you get from maglite, 100year old technology, yeah it works, but come on, maglite really needs to pull its finger out

If your still not convinced, look for reviews on the net comparing this to LED flashlights, and you'll see, the difference really is night and day!

'1900'S TECH..BUT IT WORKS...AND COSTS'
Strengths:
Small, tough, quality construction, diff colours. handy for clobbering people you don't really dislike all that much. Neat-o candle / nasal illumination function
Weaknesses:
expensive everything! purchase, bulbs, batteries - short life of all these thangs. Unscrews itself if you have 'active' pockets (?!)
Overall:
yes, it's good quality and it works so I won't be taking if off my keyring just yet BUT if you use it more than about 3/4 of a second a week, or use iffy batteries, then you'll be shelling out for bulbs & more batteries sharpish.
LED's are the way forward-as soon as they get away from using them silly expensive coin batteries.
