'Top mountain footwear for dry days'
Strengths:
The fit is close for a mountain boot (fit as a walking boot not a climbing shoe - remember the descents) and so offers precise edging and good all round climbing performance. The sole and rand are sticky with excellent friction. Laces close to the toe for better control. Good ankle support without compromising smearing ability too much.
Weaknesses:
Poor water resistance - not for boggy approaches. Rather bright in colour when new (this settles down with abuse). Relatively thin midsole makes climbing sensitivity excellent at the expense of support and comfort on long days. Slightly thin sole pattern in comparison to "normal" boots.
Overall:
An excellent boot for scrambling and easier rock routes - ideal for say the Glyders, Cuillins or Napes, or alpine rock. Superb sensitivity and edging performance for a boot you can walk round in. Lack of water resistance means that feet can get wet relatively easily though.

'MY FAVORITE 3 SEASON BOOTS'
Strengths:
Great as a scrambling/lower grade climing boot, good and sticky rubber, nice and comfy for walking
Weaknesses:
Not at all waterproof when new but some nikwax nubuck and suede sorts that out fairly well
Overall:
Good all round walk, scramble, climb boots, need treating or goretex socks if you dont want wet feet.

'GREAT FOR SCRAMBLING'
Strengths:
Comfortable straight from the box once you've got the lacing right.

Although mine are not fitted with the Vibram sole as the originals were, they are incredibly grippy on most terrains even when wet. High toe rand protects leather when scrambling (particularly with my ‘freestyle’ technique!)

Will accept crampons (B1), but they would be a bit too flexible for prolonged use.
Weaknesses:
Not waterproof unless treated and even then not totally as the tongue is not sewn in.

Not all that grippy on wet grass due to the relatively shallow lugs on the sole. The small bridge also gives me problems on long walks in and out resulting in a bruised feeling on the thighs.

Very orange and still are after several outings.
Overall:
Very good scrambling boot that grips rock well but is supportive enough to be comfortable enough for the walk in and out as long as this isn’t too long.
