'VERY GOOD, BUT NEED TO GET CORRECT SIZE'
Strengths:
good fit- if you get correct size- my advice when buying is either to take your boots and crampons, or try boot/crampon in shop. mine are 2008 version and strap is replaceable, vent is handy when weather gets hot, can get to "warm" otherwise. have used in winter and summer, would use them most of the time, might use yeti's in really heavy snow.
Weaknesses:
apart from getting right size,none
Overall:
very good and easy to put on.

'EASY TO PUT ON WHEN ADJUSTED. WOULDN'T BE WITHOUT THEM!'
Strengths:
Vents work well. Once adjusted to the wearer they are very quick to put on. Velcro front opening much easier than my old zipped gaiters.
Weaknesses:
None really. They could be cheaper but they show no signs of wearing out.
Overall:
I must assume that the reviewer who disliked them was eaither unlucky or has a pair which don't fit him properly. I have had none of the problems he had with the top closure. Velcro front opening makes them easy to put on and take off. The velcro side zip vent(because it is fixed) causes no problems and is less fiddly than velcro would be. Cordura bottoms and the neat fit helps when wearing crampons. Love em to bits!

'EASY TO USE BOMB PROOF GAITERS'
Strengths:
once adjusted there dead easy to put on just slip your heal through the instep strap and do up the velcro. Clever hook design meens they stay put, and that venting system works and is far more use than you would think
Weaknesses:
A bit on the expensive side but are lasting well so its a case of getting what you pay for.
Overall:
Probably the best garters on the market.

'POOR DESIGN, WHEN IT COULD HAVE BEEN SO GOOD...'
Strengths:
No front zip, a plus point that other US manufacturers worked out in the late 80s. More breathable than PU.
Weaknesses:
Non replaceable underfoot straps - the first bit of a gaiter to fail can't be replaced. Poor forefoot design with excess fabric around the foot, dangerous when wearing crampons. Top strap poorly designed, leaving trailing elastic straps that fly around in the wind. The top strap doesn't close across the front of the gaiter at all but just pulls the top of the gaiter around. And then there's the venting system...I still can't really see much advantage here, given the extra weight and cost.
Overall:
I love the OM user review section. Where else can you get two such diametrically opposing reviews of the same product? Keith feels these are "Probably the best garters on the market". I think they are one of the most disappointing gaiters I've evr used...

The main selling point is the venting flap. However, even if you need a non-weatherproof vent system on the side of the gaiter (why not just take it off?) then the design is still poor. Why use a zip? The main front zip has been eliminated - well done - as it doesn't add to weatherproofing and adds weight and a potential weak point. So why add one to the side? Strategically placed velcro would work as well, and be lighter and more durable.

The top closure is awful, the drawcord slips, the cut is poor, they are heavy and the underfoot strap can't be replaced. They are expensive, not that breathable, and IMHO not worth it at all.

Now all we need is for a UK distributor to start importing Outdoor Research's excellent Crocodiles (see previous reviews). Alternatively there are a pair of these flapping around somewhere below Braich y Ddeugwm in Wales where I foolishly left them a month ago - sorely missed!
