'ANTISHOCK PROTECTS ELBOW JOINTS'
Strengths:
I had a rigid pole before but my arthritic elbows complained. The antishock action helped and my elbows don't hurt even after a full day in the hills.

The camera mount works but could use some engineering time.
Weaknesses:
Adjustment isn't as easy as with flicklocks. Particularly for a pole that doubles as a monopod, flicklocks would have been ideal. There are a lot of shots that didn't happen because I couldn't be bothered to adjust the height.

Last year's version didn't come with a basket. I had to buy one extra.
Overall:
I take last year's version of this pole with me to help me navigate tricky sections of trail and to use as a monopod for my digicam. It's not too cumbersome to carry on even ground but, like all poles, will snag on tall grasses and long undergrowth.

To use the monopod function, you unscrew the handle. This takes some time. If Leki came up with an instant way of doing this, I'd buy a new pole. Be careful when you screw your camera on. The bottoms of camera mount holes is usually not very sturdy. Use the plastic ring to support the camera instead.

When I bought this pole I thought that there may be problems with the stability for photography purposes because of the antishock but I haven't noticed anything like that. It would be interesting to hear the opinion of someone who had tried this and the non-antishock version side by side.

Overall, if you've got weak elbows and want a monopod, this is an OK compromise but there's room for improvement.
