'COMFORTABLE BUT WEAR OUT TOO QUICKLY'
Strengths:
Good socks for first few outings and then it goes down from there..
Weaknesses:
Wear out far too quickly
Overall:
I first bought Thor-lo socks some years ago. I was very pleased they were everything I wanted in a sock. However I bought some replacements and they never stood up to the job as well as the first pair. Believing this to be a dud pair, I bought some more. They wore out at the toes after only a few outings. I have never had a problem with any other brands.
I am now looking for a new brand to replace my sock collection. I will not be going back to Thorlos again.

'SO COMFORTABLE'
Strengths:
A very comfortable, with plenty of padding in the right areas.
They're not cheap, but for long walks comfort has to be a high priority, and these do the business.
Dry quickly too.
Weaknesses:
Not cheap.
Overall:
You won't be disappointed.

'INDESTRUCTIBLE AS FAR AS I CAN SEE...'
Strengths:
Last forever. Padding adequate.
Weaknesses:
Not keen on the high nylon content - smell bad (or is it just me?). Rather sweaty yet not particularly warm - a curious combination.
Overall:
I bought 2 pairs of these back in 1993 prior to a trip to the Indian Himalaya and THEY STILL HAVEN'T WORN THROUGH! They're indestructible. This is a great shame as I really don't like them much, but have no excuse to throw them away. Though the padding is OK it's not great IMHO, not in comparison to say Bridgedale ATs or Toesters (a sponsored pair of prototype WC Toesters from the same trip are still far more comfortable, though the padding's a little flat 9 years later!). Smelly, synthetic, but great value - about a pound per year use! To be fair, more recent incarnations of this sock - from this millenium - seem to have less of a synthetic feel and so that may explain why my gradings are so different from those above:

'COMFORTABLE AND LONG LASTING'
Strengths:
Longevity and superb comfort.
Weaknesses:
None I can think of.
Overall:
Bought 5 or 6 pairs back in 1994 and I'm still using them today. Padding in the right places, very comfortable for all day walking. Yep, they're expensive but when you compare how long they last, they work out very good value for money. They come out of the washing machine almost dry and are soon ready to go again.

'TERRIBLE, EASILY WORN-OUT CHEESE-GRATERS'
Strengths:
Cheaper than Bridgedale or Smartwool
Weaknesses:
Don't last long enough.
When worn down they become VERY uncomfortable.
Overall:
I bought three pairs of these in early 2002 as my local shop had stopped selling my favourite Bridgedale all wool jobbies. I wore them with a pair of Mantas for hill walks and KSBs for lowland stuff. Within a couple of months the first pair had worn down to the Nylon and were causing blisters. The second and third pair followed a similar pattern. In the end I abandoned them and got some Smartwool socks and managed to track down some Bridgedale AT socks, both of which are far superior.

I expected much much better given their reputation.
