'EXCELLENT'
Strengths:
Excellent back system enabling quick adjustment between me (6'4") and wife (5'8"). Numerous ways to adjust pack in order to carry the weight efficiently. Sturdy build. Both we and child preferred it to other carriers tried.
Weaknesses:
A bit heavy--all the rugged packs seem to be, not just 'Possum'.
Overall:
Very nice kit--shave 200 g and would be perfect!

'AN EXCELLENT CARRIER '
Strengths:
Comfortable, both to carry and (apparently, more later!) to be carried in.
Hard wearing.
Has many useful features and no useless gimmicks.
Is size adaptable so both my wife (5'6") and I (6') could use it.
Has reasonable room for carrying equipment, food drinks etc.
The child harness seems very securewith little chance of the child falling out.
Weaknesses:
Perhaps on the heavy side.
I have a previous version which came without a waterproof cover.
On the expensive side, but you certainly seem to get what you pay for.
Overall:
My Macpac Possum is now finally retired after 3 children and countless miles. Some of the seams are looking stretched and there has been some wear on the contact points particularly around the hipbelt. However no repairs have been required although the buckle is now cracked after it was stood on by a size nine Scarpa Manta.
The child contact points are stained by years of dribble and dropped food and no longer look clean. Also the colours have faded and wear is evident but after seven years this is to be expected.
This carrier has been used to climb mountains (OK walk up hills), on long full day walks, on holiday strolls, through Christmas shopping crushes and whilst supermarket shopping. It has gone on aircraft, ships, trains, buses, in cars and even on a bike (not recommended!!). It has even been used by my wife whilst cooking and cleaning in the house (sorry if that seems chauvanistic).
All 3 of my children have been carried from around 6 months to over 3 years of age at times and they all fell asleep at times whilst being carried. They all still remember being carried on Mummies or Daddies back and being able to see so much more whilst up there than in a buggy.
I have recommended this to other parents I know, at least 2 of whom have since bought one.
The model I have has now been upgraded so some things have changed but I would certainly heartily recommend this to anyone.

'BULLET PROOF CHILD CARRIER'
Strengths:
sturdy and secure build quality
comfortable to wear for any length of time
adjustable back length for short mums and lanky dads
holds child very safely in multi harness
Weaknesses:
expensive when sun shade and sleepy head neck support added extra £60 but essential
difficult to attach rain shroud at speed when rainig as it is very fidley
Overall:
a carrier that appears to do it all, have used it on high fells and around town. my boy can sleep easily in it and carrier can be secured to items when on the floor by securing straps.
two large storage pockets plus mesh map holder, mirror to check out the little one (trust me this is essential and not a gimmeck) plenty of straps and padding to ensure comfort.
apparently can carry a child until the age of four but i don't think i will!

'ONE OF THE BEST AROUND - RECOMMENDED'
Strengths:
Comfy for parent and child alike
Durable and well made
3 kids so far have loved it (one at at time, though)
Children usually drop off to sleep
Weaknesses:
Zips tend to stick, especially on the lower compartment.
Relatively expensive, although good value for money as is likely to be used more than cheaper options
A little too easy for the occupant to slap Dad on the back of the head !
Overall:
Recommended.
Takes the kids where pushchairs fear to tread
Your legs will give out before the Possum does
