'Four poster comfort, and not too heavy'
Strengths:
comfortable, unsquashable, warm and idiot proof. Unscrew the valve waitin 5 minutes and the you have the near perfect camping bed.
Weaknesses:
A complete pain to get back into the stuff sack! I've ended up lashing it tight with compression straps - apparently the Americans have full width stuff sacs - PLEASE SOMEONE BRING THEM OVER
Overall:
nearly perfect - and only simple things to do to make it perfect!

'Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!'
Strengths:
So, yawn, comfy!, easy to 'make'
Weaknesses:
great anti slippy coating on sleeping side shame that the bottom is slippy nylon and shock horror so are most groundsheets. heavier than a karrimat.
Overall:
premium comfort at a premium! If you don't have to carry it (or pay for it) go for it! - I sleep better on it than at home (but then again perhaps it is partly due to not having my 2yr old daughter jumping on me at death o clock in the morning!

'RELIABLE AND COMFY'
Strengths:
Comfy enough anywhere I've ever slept. Warm. Reasonably compact.
Weaknesses:
A tad on the heavy side. After 9 years a bit blotched with stains (oops) and not-so-self-inflating anymore.
Overall:
Great piece of kit, I've just started worrying about weight so bought a 3/4 length ultralite jobby so we'll see how it compares!

'PRETTY GOOD ALL ROUND, BUT A STRUGGLE TO PACK'
Strengths:
More comfortable than most karrimat-types. I will not go back to them in a hurry. It does slide a bit, though, if you are a restless sleeper.
Weaknesses:
Stuffing the mat into its sack at altitude can get you more out of breath than than climbing the hill! The day you forget the repair kit is the day it will spring a leak.
Overall:
A very good idea and excellent for most camping situations.

'GUARANTEED PERFECT SLEEP'
Strengths:
Great insulation, very comfortable.. better than any airbed.
Strong despite abuse!
Can starp 2 together for lury for one or even 3 for 2 of you!!
Even survives being stored rolled up.
Good value.
Weaknesses:
Have not found any.....apart from needing extra air to inflate...but then I store it rolled.
Overall:
Once you've had one you could never use anything else...unless it was another thermarest

'NOTHING ELSE WILL DO- JUST GET ONE AND HAVE DONE WITH IT.'
Strengths:
Warm and comfy - easy to inflate. Enough cusioning to prevent sore joints but not too bulky. Tough and hard to puncture. Have had mine now for 5 years or so.
Weaknesses:
None yet but you must take puncture repair with you at all times- do not smoke joints anywhere near it. DOH!
Overall:
I've tried moss, bracken, foam mats, bubble wrap, air-beds and now Thermarest - they are the best and I absolutely would not leave home without it. You get total insulation, but best of all you can lie on your side without your hips or shoulders getting painful. Just dont bother with anything else.

'BETTER THAN MY BED'
Strengths:
reasonably light, not too bulky. Firm and comfy!
Weaknesses:
None really. You can get lighter, smaller ones but are they as warm and comfy? The answer, quite possibly is no. Probably a bit overpriced though.
Overall:
Tip - Don't bother with the stuff sac!
I bought a couple of straps for ours for a fiver from Field & Trek and use those instead-much easier
