'TURNS NIGHT INTO DAY - AND FINDS YOUR WAY HOME !'
Strengths:
Light, bright, long battery life and you always have the boost button.

[Update 01/06/08] If you know you are going to be out n the dark - this is the number one choice

Weaknesses:
nothing really - maybe a head strap across the top
Overall:
Excellent kit to have on you just in case - mine goes in the pocket under the rucsac lid - just in case. Paired with some lithium longlife batteries of course !

'A SUN ON YOUR HEAD'
Strengths:
Very bright, lightweight, lasts a long time, diffusion thing is great
Weaknesses:
Would be good if it had a red light on it. One also developed a loose connection where the wire enters the lgiht housing, but Petzl replaced it no problem which was good.
Overall:
Really impressed and would reccomend to anyone.

'EXCELLENT, LIGHT WEIGHT, BRIGHT, COMFORTABLE LED HEADTORCH'
Strengths:
Lightweight (compared to my old zoom), very comfortable to wear, good lighting with multi stage brightness plus "boost" function.
Weaknesses:
Seems to dim noticably as the batteries run down (even when indicator is still flashing green)
Uses 3 batteries so you have a spare AA if you buy a 4-pack, would have preferred it to use 4 or 2
Expensive
Overall:
Very good product which performs exactly as it should, very weather resistant (used in snow and driving rain and was fine). Very efficient when used sensibly, although for me it does dim noticable after a few hours use as the batteries run down.

'STONKIN'LY GOOD'
Strengths:
Reliable, batteries last a long time...very long time
Low power setting very useful around camp, high beam great for suss’ in out the track ahead.
Weaknesses:
NONE
I'm on my second, I had it replace under warranty (excellent service).
It seemed to have a fractured wire were the cable enters the lamp unit. But I still love it and it did have a hard life...
Overall:
Excellent company, great after sales service.
I haven't had a head torch I could use for all of my outdoor pursuits before this one came along.

This one seems to do all tasks I ask while wild camping and mountain biking in the great UK weather.

'ITS SO BRIGHT THAT IT COMES WITH A HEALTH WARNING!!'
Strengths:
Much brighter than a standard LED Headtorch, and has a boost button and diffuser. Battery life indicator, Compact and light, and Seems durable and waterproof, and the bulb won't blow. Takes three AA Batteries rather than four or a battery pack. Comfy to wear. The on button can be covered when you are not using it.
Weaknesses:
The bulb is set back two Cm's from bottom of the front of the torch, so if the beam is angeled to light up ten or more meters in front there is a two meter or more shadow directly in front of you. The boost button does not do enough for it to be of any real use when the torch is on the high setting. The rubber on button bends to the sides sometimes making it a little Fiddly. And its not as bright as a Zoom.
Overall:
Its a good headlamp, much brighter than standard LED's and its still light and has good battery life. Its not as bright as a Zoom though, and also more expensive.

The diffuser works well, I had a small problem with light being reflected down into my eyes by the front of it when it was down, so i painted the small part that protrudes over the front of torch black and that has sorted it out.

I don't really like the boost button as it doesn't seem to improve the distance you can see by very much in high mode. It is handy if you are using the lower settings, or want to turn the torch on briefly. I would say that the lowest setting is about the same as a tikka plus, the highest not as bright or wide as a Zoom, but bright enough. The battery indicator is very handy, mines still showing green after it has been used on several occasions.

One thing i definitely don't like about it though is the way that the bulb is set back from the front of the torch, as the ground directly in front of were you are walking is not illuminated if the torch is shining ten or more meters in front. The only reasons i can think of for it is either that it is because the LED can cause eye damage, or it is so the diffuser can fold down neatly. Flipping the diffuser solves the problem.

'Impressed'
Strengths:
Light
Powerful enough for most walking/climbing applications - boost is genuinely useful
Flip down diffuser works really well,
3 power levels - minimum light is low enough to read in the tent without being blinded, maximum is more than enough even when moving fast.
Haven't tried it while biking yet but I think it would be great as a secondary light to accompany (more powerful) bar mounted lights, and would be an excellent back-up light.
Weaknesses:
Expensive, but only £20 more than a tikka plus, and far more versitile. Heavier too, but not enough to detract from performance - I'm using mine comfortably without the top strap.
Overall:
Note: This is just a mini-review. I've only just got the XP, so it's only been out a couple of times. But, I was so impressed, and because it's a new product, I thought people might be interested. Hence I can't comment on durability or battery duration.

I've been using my Tikka for night-walking and wanted a bit more light. The XP is just what I've been after. Light weight but powerful enough for distance work. Flip down diffuser works well and is good for tent set-up etc. Without the diffuser high power LED gives a solid penetrating beam. The hybrid halogen/small-LED lights are probably better value for money but there is a slight weight penalty, and on halogen mode battery life is a fraction of the XP's. They also give you slightly more range, if you think you need it.

Very pleased with the XP so far.

'HANDIER THAN A SONIC SCREWDRIVER'
Strengths:
It's bright - I mean REALLY bright. Even without the 65m boost the lamp is powerful enough for night-time cycling, but is also controlable enough to use wildcamping without dazzling everyone around. Oh and did I mention - its light, the batteries last for ages and ages, and its really bright !!!
Weaknesses:
None so far. It's lighter than my old LED headlamp and much comfier to wear.
Overall:
If you were to really twist my arm I may grumble that the £46.00 price ticket was a bit steep, but hey, the lamp is very, very good for the money. I've used a range of torches and headlamps over the years for walking, climbing, camping, potholing and cycling and this is the first lamp I would heartily recommend for all those uses.
