| 'CHEAP & WORKS' | | Strengths: Cheap, works, bright enough for the campsite, fairly light, excellent customer service. Batteries last for ages. Seems durable enough. | | Weaknesses: Not really bright enough for walking at night (Alpkit are now selling a more powerful torch for £12.50), but great for around the campsite, going to the pub or as an emergency torch. | | Overall: Well worth £5 if you don't need something more powerful. |

| 'CHEAP, CHEERFUL BUT STILL DOES THE BIZ' | | Strengths: er cheap (did I mention that?), functional, solid | | Weaknesses: weight (I'm being picky here) | | Overall: a good all round headlamp for general camping and nightime duties. Value for money is excellent considering that it's £5 post free! Apart from weight (compared to Petzl lamps), only other minor niggle is that the 4 light mode doesnt appear to be much brighter than the 2 light mode. That aside, you really cant go wrong with this |

| 'THE PRICE OF A CHIP SUPPER' | | Strengths: Cheap | | Weaknesses: None Really | | Overall: What can you get for a fiver these days?
I only bought this as a wind up. My partner sits in the dark reading her books, despite having foot-thick lenses in her glasses. Now she can wear this, or just turn the light on!!
Excellent speedy AlpKit service. |

| 'WONDERFUL AROUND CAMP' | | Strengths: Very cheap. Lasts well on nimh batteries. | | Weaknesses: Not the strongest unit or brightest unit. | | Overall: The very low price makes these a winner. When camping the children often manage to loose their torch, so before going away this Easter I brought four, which was still cheaper than an normal LED torch. Easily bright enough around camp, and lasted well. Small and lightweight to carry, but I would perhaps want something brighter if I was to use it as my sole light on a night walk in the mountains. |

| 'Buy two, thow one away and you'll still have a bargain!' | | Strengths: Price Variable power output Price Lightweight Price Switch sheltered under the lamp unit | | Weaknesses: Not the prettiest thing, but who cares! Switch is a little temperamental but I can live with that for a fiver Headband smelt of kippers at first!
| | Overall: This has got to be the best value head torch in the world! I bought it at the Outdoors Show on a whim, just to see if I got on with LEDs - well, I do get on with them! What you get: a chunky, no-frills lamp with four LEDs in a row and a switch underneath that cycles two-LEDs, four-LEDs and off. Power comes from two AAA batteries in a showerproof compartment at the rear of the headband - which also has a top band, a la Petzl Zoom. Weight is very good and it packs down well, abeit a little more bulky than a more expensive model - but hey, that saves you 40 quid! The headband smelt of kippers when I took it out of the box, although that's fading now. Performance - was as good as my friends' Black Diamond and Petzl LED jobbies on a hike last weekend. I was very, very impressed with it indeed. Buy two, throw one away and you'll still have yourself a baragain - kudos to Alpkit for producing such a great value-for-money piece of gear! |

| 'GREAT PERFORMANCE FOR THE PRICE' | | Strengths: The button is shielded under the unit when folded so won't turn on whilst in your bag. I used mine in terrible conditions in the hills and the water didn't seem to affect it at all. Nice and lightweight and gives a good clean white light. | | Weaknesses: Not the most comfortable headtorch, but certainly not the worst! Im unsure how long it will hold itself up but the pin seems fairly user-serviceable. Don't get excited about the "variable power output", there is no visable difference in output between having 2 and 4 LEDs. | | Overall: Great value, worked superbly well for me and pays for itself pretty quickly. At £5 a piece you might as well get one to keep in the car, even if its never used. |
