| 'Small and handy' | | Strengths: Lightweight, extremely rugged, very efficient, very compact, reasonably priced | | Weaknesses: Not as bright as some other LED lights | | Overall: CMG's new Infinity light is one of the best of the new palm-size one-cell LED pocket torches. Only a bit longer and hardly any bigger than the 1 AA battery it uses, the Infinity has a tough aluminum barrel housing with an LED bulb that lasts almost indefinitely, and is waterproof. The light comes with a lanyard, as well as a pocket clip for attaching it to clothing, hat brim (instant headtorch) etc. The torch operates with a simple turn of the knurled section at the lens end, and the bulb is recessed for protection.
Being a one-battery LED, the Infinity isn't the brightest light in the world, though it's perfectly capable of general illumination work. But it's an excellent backup or emergency light, very cheap to operate and virtually indestructible. Two of them weigh considerably less than one Maglite, and they're much more strongly built than the usual headtorch. One AA battery will last 60 hours in the Infinity before dying out - impressive efficiency on a single battery! Using a lithium AA battery gets about the same life, but stays brighter for longer.
The Infinity comes in a variety of LED colors - white, red, green, yellow, blue, turquoise. The green LED is currently the brightest of the lot for illumination purposes, and won't destroy night vision. I highly recommend this light for anyone needing a very compact torch for hiking or emergency use. |
