'EXCELLENT COMPASS, BUT WITH A FAULT'
Strengths:
Superb quality compass, robust, settles well
Weaknesses:
Sun cream and/or sweat has eaten most of the markings off the dials.
Overall:
This is a great compass apart from the fact that all the markings have faded / worn out very quickly due to sun cream and/or sweat. This happened within about 10 days use summer, so is not acceptable wear and tear. I used the same compass over the winter with no hint it was going to do this, which is why I blame sun cream and/or sweat.

'PERFECT MATCH OF FORM AND FUNCTION'
Strengths:
Stripped of all non essential features, crystal clear to use. The three "sticky" feet hold it steady on your map or mapcase. Surprisingly good in the dark, too.
Weaknesses:
Bezel could be a bit easier to turn.
Overall:
With its 50 and 25 thou scales, if you're an OS map user, there is nothing on this compass that you won't be grateful for, and there is nothing that it lacks. Harveys 40 thou map users will need to do a quick bit of mental arithmetic to measure distances accurately. Maybe the inch/mile romer, which I doubt is used much now, could be replaced with this new scale?

Solid as a rock: mine must be at least ten years old and still looks new.
