'THE BIG RED LOAD-LUGGER WORK HORSE.'
Strengths:
Comfy back system handles heavy loads well.
Offset base zip works well.
Very durable.
Stable.
Good compression system.
Weaknesses:
Quite heavy- 2.5kg
Fixed backlength.
Waist belt fins are set quite far apart so gaps can appear if not completely
adjusted.
Overall:
A bit of hit and miss with this one (mainly hit), Berghaus have added some weight saving features like the fixed backlength, then put in stuff like heavy waterproof zips (onto non-waterproof material). I've had mine for 3 years and its seen heavy use with very little wear.

'GREAT.. CAN TAKE SOME WEAR AND TEAR...'
Strengths:
great back support
spacious compartments
Weaknesses:
too small side entrance
Overall:
I've owned this one for years now, and i have never regretted buying it...!
My biggest concern is really that after 40-60 km, i tend to get wear-marks on my hips from the hipbelt - dunno if it's me using it in the wrong way, but it's a problem every time.
One of the top-string-locks is snapped, but other than that it really seems solid!

Have never had back-aching from it :)

'GREAT. A NICE REPLACEMENT TO MY OLD CYCLOPS II AZTEC'
Strengths:
Loads of nice features. Plenty of external pockets
Weaknesses:
Perhaps it is a bit gimmicky. Some features never get used (but then better there than not)
Overall:
I have a Cyclops II Aztec which has given sterling service. When I noticed one of these on ebay, I knew it would be a great update.

No problems with this sack, loads of nice features (like bladder pouch, plenty of pockets etc). Perfectly comfortable to wear, and looks hardwearing.

'Quality Pack'
Strengths:
Good Quality feel, EVAbreathe foamstable carry
Weaknesses:
Pricey, a bit wide, Heavy
Weird looking (asked if it was custom built!!!)
Occipital Cavity not really effective
Overall:
Apparently I was one of the first people in Ireland to buy one, North or South of the dotted line.
I got to try it out the day after in unusally sunny weather and found that the foam works well!! The sack was stable althogh to be honest it was a 60 km road walk in training for an explorer belt. Side acess is good but with rucksack liner is usless. Offset base is easier to use and stuff gear into, back system and hipbelt feels good. Instead of using the hump on the front for wet gear i stuck fuel in there so it wouldnt leak all over gear.

Overall its a good pack, i'm jst wondering will it win over the hardcore Karrimor and Lowe Fans.

'GIZMO-LADEN MESS.'
Strengths:
Foam stuff seems a good idea, In fact everything seems a good idea... Berghaus hipbelt still the best. Good and stable though.
Weaknesses:
Looks an absolute mess. Side zip to main compartment a total waste of time. It would even be a waste of time if the pack was waterproof...because this would make it not waterproof. A little thought, please guys. Occipital cavity a very silly idea. Top pocket too small, back pocket too small. Lid won't close properly unless you take too much stuff. Just looks a mess. Too much material everywhere. Dumb little belt pocket. What are you going to put in there that you can't or won't put in your pockets?
Overall:
Thinking this looked like a good idea, I ordered one from Berghaus (whose distribution network is lousy). First time I packed it, I realised it was just a mess. Sold it to a mate. Now using a Vulcan minus the side pockets. Much simpler, much better. Berghaus beat Karrimor as far as I'm concerned, but their customers would love to be able to get hold of gear other then just Berghaus clothes. Moans: have straps that go all the way down the pack please, not those silly ones for the top that only go half-way down the pack. Don't waste money on developing too many gizmos when what we really want is a waterproof pack. Taped seams please, pronto, or just include a tailored, taped liner for each compartment. While I'm having a moan, why haven't the maufacturers of rucsac covers realised that people carry sleeping mats?

'NICE AND COMFY NO PROBS YET.'
Strengths:
nice back system, nice fit good amount of useable pockets
Weaknesses:
probably only what neil said........
Overall:
i think paddy has a hate thing going on, for a start you can fit ample in the lid pocket, well ya can on mine( three os maps, map case, sunnies, mug, stove.. its prob bout 5 odd litres!) so dunno whether his is an old design, the side zip is great for digging things from the bottom of the bag tho tricky to do up again when the bags full cos its a water resistant one so its stiff,( so dunno again why paddys moanin cos its a WATERresistant zip with a storm flap on it, what more water resistance could you ask for from a zip?)The bag is fine when not full, its got enuf compression straps to make it look like a 30 litre, and the straps on mine go all the way from top to bottom so roll mats in any position is NOT a problem, the tiny pocket on the hip belt?? perfect for putting ya phone/gps/sunglasses/wallet/mars bar in an ya can get two of any a those items in and its better than ya pockets cos its zipped and doesn't restrict movement like full pockets do, thats why its better than ya pocket paddy boy!!! finally waterproof packs?? get a liner or cover, or, a big wallet to shell out for a 100% waterproof bag. paddy stop hating (did ya ex work for berghaus or somat??)

'BIG LOADS DONE COMFORTABLY'
Strengths:
Big carrying load
Excellent compression to reduce size when not fully used
Excellent load division
Pocket on belt
Comfortable
Bladder compatible
Weaknesses:
Occipital cavity is hard to notice, it doesn't work for me
It doesn't carry itself for me
Overall:
I am recently back to hiking and trekking after a 14 year break and I know that the rucsac is the single most important piece of equipment that you will own. I am quite short and stocky (5'6" and around 12 stone), therefore I am not really bothered about carrying moderately large loads over long distances (bit of a pack horse), but I am keen that it is comfortable and provides me with the most freedom that is possible. I tried on the BioFlex pack and found it very strange indeed, this pack felt strong and comfortable. I have been out quite a number of times now carrying up to 20kilos over 10-20km, I have been very content and I have felt little to no damage to my shoulders/back. I like this pack and it is tough (I am the original "test to destruction" man).
