'WARM, SMELLY BUT BRILLIANT ALL THE SAME'
Strengths:
Guaranteed to keep you warm and even better teamed with a G/tex bivi bag.
The burst-out zip is great too.
Very snug.
Weaknesses:
A bit bulky and heavy, takes a long time to dry if its soaked(hence the bivi bag!).
Specialist clean if you get it really dirty.
Overall:
I love this bag, in fact I have 2 of them, both long, heavy winter ones . Its actually a goose down filling but can be a bit spikey so beware, they also have a really individual smell but a great bag overall and you can't go wrong for the money.
Here's another tit-bit, they're actually made by North Face no less.

'VERY WARM & COMFORTABLE BUT HEAVY!'
Strengths:
I have an extra long version of the new type not '58 pattern, it is an excelletn bag, lovely and warm, plenty of room and the burst out zip down the centre is great, (can't get used to these civvy side zip bags, I keep rolling aroud in my new civvy bag trying to get the zip to the front then my head's not in the hood!
Weaknesses:
Bloody heavy and can fill your bergen on it's on! I suppose it can get smelly but when it's your own smell it's ok.
Overall:
Got my self lightweight summer bag and a lightweight winter bag, so my army bag is only used for the car camping trips.

'VERY WARM AND CHEAPER THAN MOST'
Strengths:
very warm, solid construction and materials easily found at low prices. Mine is the new version a synthetic bag with no ground sheet much better than the 58 pattern one.
Weaknesses:
heavier than top end bags bit bulky to.
Overall:
An top bag at bottom prices.

'KEPT ME WARM ON DARTMOOR. BLOWING A HOOLIE AND ABOUT - 5C.'
Strengths:
Really warm
Built in groundsheet so you can sit outside in it and do cooking there (in good weather). It hasn't got wet from doing this either, even in damp conditions.

CHEAP!
Weaknesses:
Huge pack size,
Really heavy,
'Down' has the pointy bits so you end up looking like you have been fiughting chickens all night as it leaks.
Overall:
Really warm, it has seen me through the start of my backpacking, now going to upgrade but really good stuff!

I guess wont be good for long term as it might not hold the down long enough.. so 3 for Reliability where i would get 4 if it didn't leak.

'Arctic heavyweight.'
Strengths:
Excellent design and materials for the price, this bag really performs! The price is incredible (£20 second-hand from army surplus, but you can find as new / hardly used ones). it has box section construction to keep the feathers in place, and wicks like its going out of fashion! Soooo snuggly!
Weaknesses:
The filling is not exactly high volume down; more like chicken feathers, really, complete with the stiff, stalky bits, so they keep piercing the fabric and coming out! Still, they do the job well, are comfy and warm! The hood is a bit thinner, with less down, so it doesnt do so well at keeping warmth in for your head. (Beware the smell of the really used ones! Ripe squaddy!)
Overall:
I love this bag! It's a real, cold weather performance bag, at a price I can afford! (Even though it doesn't have all the high volume whistles and high tech bells of the real top-end kit, and weighs a ton, I ca't afford their stuff anyway!)

'NOT BAD AT ALL'
Strengths:
Warm, packs down OK, interesting inbuilt groundsheet.
Weaknesses:
As another reviewer says, we're not talking goose down here, more like feathers. Fairly heavy.
Overall:
Mine is the 58 Pattern bag, full length central zip with a built in rubber groundsheet kind of design. It's warm, spacious and tough, certainly adequate. I wouldn't spend more than £20 on one.
