'Dryflo. Best there is.'
Strengths:
Dryflo. Half zip. Long sleeve. Really breathable, dries out really quickly. Only really very exertive sports will push it beyond it's limit.
Weaknesses:
Black. Worst colour for temperature regulation. If it's sunny it warms up. If it's cold, it's very cold.
Overall:
I reckon this is as good as it gets in the world of baselayers. I know it's mainly personal preference, dependant on how warm a person you are, et al, but for me this has is amost perfect.

'WICKEDLY WICKED WICKING TOP.'
Strengths:
Totally breathable, totally insulating, totally awesome. Push it to it's limits and it responds.
Weaknesses:
You'll never want to take it off.
Overall:
This is top rate gear. It's the most important layer & one you can rely on.

'PROPER BO, I TELL THEE.'
Strengths:
Light, quick drying, breathable, and wicks like a reet 'un. Everything you need in a base layer.
Weaknesses:
Not much to be honest. It needs to be close fitting to be most effective, so it's probably best to do the odd sit up to reduce that cheeky one-pack beer belly.
Overall:
To be fair, my pits and back get a little over excited when I'm out in the mountains, but this baby sorted them right out, putting them in their place.

It wicked everything they threw at it, and dried in no time, with not even a trace of eau-de-body type smells, thanks to the clever stuff those guys n gals at Lowe Alpine have weaved into the fabric. Not 100% sure what it is - some scienterific stuff anyway, that doesn't wash out, apparently... Now that's magic! (said with a Paul Daniels style voice).

I wore a couple over the weekend, in Snowdonia. The first day was hot 'n' sunny, so this was the only layer I wore. 'T'was superb. Dry as a bone, and nobody moved away from me in the pub we stopped at on the way back to the campsite, so I assume there were no offensive odours emanating from the garment.

I also wore one for Tryfan/the Glyders, with a fleece and Gore-Tex shell, and it also did the trick. I tend to run hot, so need to strip a layer, or at least open some zips to cool down - the DryFlo fabric did exactly what it said on the tin. Well, box...

I splashed out and went for the posh convertable option, with long sleeves which can be pulled up when the weather gets a little warm, and the zip neck, which can also be opened and closed as required. Technology, eh? Genius!

So overall: no dampness, no pongs, no need for a shower in a can every five minutes. And it's light.

Quality.

'STILL NOT CONVINCED BY DRYFLO'
Strengths:
reasnoble cut allowing good movement of the arms and the zip allows good venting when working hard. Wicks better than cotten and cheaper baselayers but then at twice the price i'd hope so.
Weaknesses:
Where do i start. Judging by comments above i've either got a dodgy batch or an older model.

Firstly the material feels quite rough against the skin compaired to the polartech baselayers i usually use and doesnt stretch anywhere near as well.

The zip seems to get caught and is a nightmare to use wearing gloves (even thing mtb ones)

Wicking preformance compaired to powerdry and other polartech materials is poor as i still seem to feel wet, damp and clammy esp when wearing a waterproof (either xcr/paclite3 which breathes no probs)

The cuffs dont strech enought leading to splitting seams for those rollo the sleaves up moments.

Oh and no matter what youve been doing. however hard youve been working it stinks. you could shower everyminute, use sticks of deoderant and it'd still pong!

Overall:
Not impressed at all with this. Its not hugely comfy to wear, wicking performance isnt that impressive and the fabric jus feels nasty against the skin, esp when wet.

And at the asking price.....buy a TNF el cap instead! much nicer with better value for money.

big thumbs down!

'IT'S TOO SHORT'
Strengths:
Performance is fine. Dries quicker than any other fabric - rinse it in the burn at night and it's more wearable in the morning than anything else you can buy.
Weaknesses:
The back length is hopelessly short. I'm not an odd shape and I could do with at least 3" longer. (Anyone sn iggering at that - go and stand in the corridor. Rides up with a few minutes' ordinary walking. Yes, I should have spotted this when I tried it on. Don't make my mistake.
Overall:
Works, but be cautious about sizing

'IF THIS IS THE INDUSTRY STANDARD, HOW RUBBISH!'
Strengths:
Washes well-needs too as well!
Does wick reasonably well.
Zip is good for temperature regulation
Weaknesses:
Nasty blue colour
Doesn't feel that nice against skin.
Does not fit. This is the women's version. It fits OK over the chest, but then kind of hangs around the waist. This kind of garmet needs to body hug to wick properly. Manufacturers should invest more time into getting women's fit garments to fit better.
Smells bad. It seems to attract odour. I can normally wear things for weeks with no smell, this top smells after just one wear.
Overall:
I am disappointed by this top, considering the tights (see other review) seem to work so nicely.

I don't think the material works very well on the upper body.

Next time I will probably go to M&S-at least they know how to cut garments so they actually fit.

'LOVE IT!'
Strengths:
Coped with the sweat backpacking in Oz, and no pong! Wash it, drunk. at 2 am when the temp is 4 degrees c, and it is dry by sunrise. Gets stolen by the women in the house, so the fabric must be kind to the skin...
Weaknesses:
Sizes are a bit unforgiving - I am between a medium and a large, so have found that to counter the gap at the bottom of the back, mentioned already, I need a L top, and M bottoms, or L bottoms with an M top - all a bit tricky with a hangover.. Zip was a bit sticky out of the box, but a quick rub with a HB pencil sorted that out. Would be better value if cheaper...
Overall:
Faults can be forgiven - Love it. It has just passed the extreme conditions of eurodisney?! (wind and snow and small people who insist on staying out in it...) with flying coulours - so from the desert to the, well, entertainment park, it gets my vote!

'DOES MY GUT LOOK SMALL IN THIS??'
Strengths:
Good comfort, feels soft on the skin. Wicking worked well, and the zip up collar was a welcome bonus. I road tested mine in a small indoor climbing wall, where it gets very warm, it worked really well, even when really struggling on the wall. It dries quick too, but washing would be required after each use, coz it did start to whiff.
Weaknesses:
The fit. I`m pretty skinny, 11st and 6 ft tall, the medium fitted great round the shoulders, neck, arms and chest. However, the waist seems to have a billowing effect, with a large gap running down my back where I could feel sweat collecting without actually coming into contact with the material. This problem is solved quite dramatically by wearing a 30lb rucksack for wildcamping.
The only other weakness was the sticky zip when it reaches the neck, easily solved though.
Overall:
Very good. kept me dry where it really counted, chest, underarms, neck.
Lowe need to make a fitted one for my super-model figure (hug me like a Helly??) or I`ll have to start drinking Guinness to expand my waistline.
