'GREAT VALUE, FANTASTIC FOR PRICE'
Strengths:
Cheap
lightweight, can abuse it at this price, from battling through the shops...to wiping rockboots clean.
Warm..great cheap belay jacket
Weaknesses:
for the price...(£25 in the sales)..absolutely nothing
Overall:
Why do people buy a cheap, functional belay/general use jacket and moan about how they look..its fantastically functional for the price..can be used and abused without looking at your mastercard bill...if you want style buy prada,or even george at asda

'DEAD WARM, DEAD GOOD'
Strengths:
Really warm, cheap, good cut
Weaknesses:
It's not meant as a belay jacket
Overall:
For standing about campsites, on cold journeys, and at lunchstops, this is great. It's too hot to walk in (even in Scottish winter), but it's not waterproof enough to like being stuck over a waterproof as a belay jacket. Get a Rab Belay jacket for that.

'BASIC, CHEAP BUT CAPABLE'
Strengths:
Loose fit allows it to be thrown over other clothes. It is warm, simple and packs down fairly small.
Weaknesses:
Fiddly zips get stuck on pocket material - annoying with cold hands! The loose fit - also a strength, makes you look like a marshmallow - not great in the pub. The shell material feels a little fragile.
Overall:
I got this jacket for £30 in the sales and am very pleased with it. It is great to chuck on when you stop to take in the views. You could spend more but quite frankly this does the job!

'BARGAIN (ONLY 40QUID IN THE NEW YEAR SALES!)'
Strengths:
Lovely and warm
Weaknesses:
The zip sticks in your chin.
Overall:
Being shaped like a Michelin man helps the fit of this considerably. I love it. It has a good DWP so is comfortable in a bit of mist or drizzle.
The material is a bit easy to pluck so not sure how long it'll last.

'SHAPELESS'
Strengths:
Warm
simple
straight forward
inexpensive
Weaknesses:
odd shape
bunches underneath other layers
Overall:
An inexpensive layering jacket. weighs around 600g, comes with it's own stuff sack. The arms are extra long (like all Mountain Equipment Jackets) and the torso has no tapering or form.
Not a good fit on most bodies and I found it made me look like a michelin man, as it bunched up and gathered ander my gore-tex
