'GREAT DESIGN....DUBIOUS QUALITY?'

Strengths:
Great design - pockets and wired hood
Good fit
Large stuff stack

Weaknesses:
Quality of manufacturing?

Overall:
I had wanted a RAB duvet jacket ever since my mate got the Peak Smock in about 1999 which I was very impressed with. Having found one with 30% off on the net I thought I had a bargain. However, since owning it I have been dissapointed with the quality compared to the earlier products.
There is hardly any down fill in the collar of the jacket and very little in the cuffs. Also, compared to the earlier version, the outer shell feels lighter and less durable.

My mate brought a peak smock for his girlfriend this Christmas and was similarly disappointed with what was once a great product. What has happened?

The jacket still does the job, but when paying top money for a top brand you'd expect top quality. Would buy Alpkit next time.

'TOP QUALITY DOWN JACKET'

Strengths:
Good fit, nice hood excellent pockets. Good fabrics are used on this jacket and is deffinatly windproof. Nice torso length and the arms are well cut too. Wired peak is nice as is the inside mesh drying pockets,

Weaknesses:
Not keen on the chin cover on the hood, would like to have seen a secon run of poppers to increase the tightness. also velcro between the poppers on the hood attatchment.

Overall:
I paid £200 for mine and my wifes at the end of 2006 in a £50 off deal, can now be got for £100...yes £100 stonking value for money.

'As warm as you can get!'

Strengths:
Amazing. Quite simply it is the best down jacket I have ever seen, and I''ve seen MHW, ME, Rab, TNF, and Ajungilak. The down is nearly the best quality possible, and it has an extremely high power. There is also a lot of it. Water resistant, warm, packable, brilliant hood. Unbeatable

Weaknesses:
The stuff sack which comes with it, is quite hard to pack into, and I haven''t managed it with the hood yet. It is also quite expensive.

Overall:
Not the best value for money, but amazing quality, and unsurpassable in terms of it's usefulness. It really is quite simply the most incredible insulated jacket I have ever seen.

'SIMPLY THE BEST AROUND!!'

Strengths:
Great!! ive tried on a few down jackets and this one seems the best!! ive tried North Face, ME, MHW and also some other rab products but this oune simply is the warmest and most comfortable one yet!! The down is nearly the best quality possible, and it has an extremely high power. There is also a lot of it. The outer is water resistant, Durable and windproof. The Down is very warm, Highly compressiable, brilliant hood. Unbeatable. The inner fabric is very soft against the skin!! the pockets are great!! their well positioned and the also feature a velcro storm flap to keep out that nasty cold wind! it also has a down filled storm flap that runs all the way down the zip to keep it out too!

Weaknesses:
As drew said!! the stuff sack is pretty useless!! i havnt managed to stuff the jacket into it without the hood!! with the hood its totally impossiable!! a slight desighn flaw i think!! the hood should have one-handed draw cords but im being petty now!!

Overall:
its a bit expensive but i got mine at a special price (£128) so im not bothred! the jacket is very warm!!

its quite light for a jacket of this warmth ans so it really is qiute the best that you could buy for this price. buy one now!! stay warm!! never be cold again!!

'VERY WARM, GREAT HOOD, FIDDERLY POCKETS'

Strengths:
Very warm jacket
Quite durable and strong
Fantastic hood
Resonable price

Weaknesses:
Fidderly pockets especially the inside pocket which can't be opened or closed with one hand, very silly really. Also the inner comes out the bottom of the sleeves when you first put it on.

Overall:
A great jacket for warmth and features. Very tough and durable, good looking jacket as well. The hood is the best I've seen on a duvet jacket with a wired peak. I was a bit let down by the stupid inside zip pocket which is very fidderly horizontal affair. Why it wasn't a vertical zip is anybodys guess. Its also a bit impossible to get it into the stuff sack with the hood and only just without it. Yet overall its still the best jacket in its class for warmth, features, looks and incredible hood.

'WARMTH WITHOUT WEIGHT'

Strengths:
Great hood
good length and cut
durable and weather resistant

Weaknesses:
Stuff sack is way too small. I thought i'd been seen off and given the wrong stuff sack with mine...

Overall:
This jacket is well warm enogh for anything the british weather dish out. The jacket looks great, is light and pack small in relation too its warmth. Great for sitting around camp in at night and makes a luxury pillow.

'FABULOUSLY WARM, GREAT WEIGHT'

Strengths:
This jacket is fantastic, warm, good sized hand pockets, great hood that fits. Inside mesh pockets useful.
Packs down small and is light for the warmth. Even a good fit, with sleeves that adjust well to offset the too long for me arms. The shoulders and sides are reinforced fro extra durability. great for carrying packs and tripods which tend to rub along the sides of jackets.
So pleased with it, I have proposed!

Weaknesses:
Inside zipped pocket is at a silly angle so is a little awkward to access....outside would be better so you don't have to open the jacket and can keep the warmth in.

Overall:
I even got it at a bargain price, but although it is expensive at full price, it is good value compared to much of the competition.
Can't beat it!

'VERSATILE, DURABLE & TOASTY!'

Strengths:
Good fit, wear patches in appropriate places, great collar, good loft down and lots of it, awesome hood, detachable hood, external pocket layout.

Weaknesses:
Incredibly difficult to get the hood in the stuffsac with the jacket.

Overall:
I've got a '96 vintage of this jacket and the pockets are slightly different in layout. It has been used for everything from in the hills in the UK to work in the Pamirs where daytime temps were down to -40 deg C at night. 5 winters of that and the jacket has never let me down. Now it is proving itself in the Southern Alps of New Zealand and doing very well.

Despite it age and the use its had it still looks in very good nick. The pertex fabric has been amazing in that all the down has stayed inside the jacket; never even had a leak through any stitching.

Despite paying an arm and a leg for it 9 years ago it is probbably one of the best value outdoor clothing items I have ever purchased.

'BRILLIANTLY WARM AND COSY'

Strengths:
Very well fitting, arms long enough to hide your hands in if you've forgotten your gloves. Well made throughout.

Weaknesses:
Pertex does get caught in zips if you're not careful. Washing instructions suggest sending to Franklins in Sheffield for cleaning - has anyone done this? What does it cost?
I guess RAB may have taken comments about inadequate size of stuffsac onboard as mine didn't come with one at all!

Overall:
A great jacket - durable, good looking, reinforced in the right areas, warm with an excellent hood.
