'GREAT GADGET'
Strengths:
Nice big display and buttons. Great when you just want a rough bearing on the rain. Solar, waterproof and maintenace free. Altimeter pretty accurate. Useful memory function to prove you made it to top!
Weaknesses:
Bulky, doesn't fit under a work shirt. No stopwatch/timer. Needs to be off wrist to get accurate temp.

[Update 20/04/07] Started to misbehave a few year on. The battery (that's charged by the solar panel)wouldn't hold a charge and the functions went screwy. Not abused just stopped one day.
Casio repaired it, new module and battery but it cost about £45.

Overall:
Feels more robust than Suunto. Not really essential kit, but a nice to have. Don't pay shop prices. Got mine from http://www.discount-watches.co.uk for £125 inc vat & del

[Update 20/04/07] Made me think - is solar really better than battery? I could have bought a good few new batteries for a Suunto for £45

'TOP QUALITY BIT OF CHUNKY KIT '
Strengths:
They're cool
Big display
Big buttons for gloved fingers (or for blokes with fat fingers like me)
Altimeter is blummin' accurate when calibrated and it has altitude alarms.
Recording facility to give you gradient profile graphs
Solar power - never buy a battery again (has a sleep mode for when not in use)
Seriously chunky and robust strap
They sell them on eBay for peanuts.
Weaknesses:
There is a stopwatch but you have to toggle thru the modes and I think it only works when using the altitude recording method. I only got it to work once by accident.
The instruction manual is as big as a house!
I'm still scared of trashing it in a fall.
Temperature accuracy is obviously restricted as you're wearing it !!
Alarm is ridiculously quiet.
Overall:
I love this watch its great. If it was a lady we’d get married.
I bought it for 2 reasons, firstly it's cool as it's a damn sexy bit of kit.
Secondly, and more seriously, it really helps me psychologically when doing a long ascent in minging conditions, especially when backpacking. If you know you've only got 200m to the summit then it gives you a lift.
It will never replace traditional navigation tools but its blummin’ useful. My mate was a total sceptic, (words such as gear freak were used), but after a weekend on Arran in ever-changeable conditions he had to concede that it’s really useful. If you know how to use it, it perfectly complements a map and compass.
The only downside is that the manual is huge and you’d need an hour or so to get to grips with it.

I bought mine off eBay. A registered shop in Hong Kong. It was brand new in the box with tags and it only cost me £66 plus £10 for insured delivery – BARGAIN of the year!!!!

Get one ... you know you want to!!

'NICE BIT OF KIT '
Strengths:
Big clear display, big buttons and no battery to change cause it is solar powered. Functionality does put the suunto vector to shame. Used it biking in the Andes gave me temperature, barometer readings, altitude and a digital compass reading....perfect
Weaknesses:
It is a little big but it is a tough one,
Strap will eventually need replacing. Case made of toughed pastic did get quite scratched on my travels.
Overall:
easy to use - does everything you need it to could be better if they made one in metal or one with a PC interface but i guess it would put the price up.
