'IT'S A COMPASS CASE...BY SILVA'
Strengths:
It holds the compass securely and can be attached to belts or straps.
Weaknesses:
Not a hard case, so not bomb-proof
No secure mounting system.
The velcro weakens with age, and can be accidentally opened, leading to possible loss of compass.
Overall:
It does what it does, but is long overdue a revamp
If you must use one, treat it with care, secure it to your kit with a carabiner, and secure the compass to the carabiner as well, otherwise it could disappear.

'DOES IT'S JOB.'
Strengths:
Keeps your compass safe and warm.
Weaknesses:
None.
Overall:
I keep compass, pointers and protractor in mine. It straps to the chest strap on my rucksack, with the lanyard also connected to the compass pouch via a toy carabiner. Always ready for use, in the right place, but out of my way when I don't need it.

'ITS ALRIGHT I GUESS...'
Strengths:
Saves the lifeline dangling abut, and makes you look like a hardcore matie on the hills, instead of some scuzzy DofE reject.
Weaknesses:
The straps on the back are really hard to try and configure with the ones on my pack strap.
Overall:
Does its job without all the bells and whistles
