'NOT AS GOOD AS THE OLD HILLMASTER GTX'
Strengths:
Sole harder than previous models. General durability. Good for scrambling.
Weaknesses:
Leaks around the rand, tongue lower than previous.
Overall:
From 1998 to 2002 i had three pairs which i wore out through use. Then the design changed and with it went my confidence, now leaks after a moderately wet day on the hill (which i'd never experienced from the original design). A winning performer changed for the worse.

'MASSIVELY DISSAPOINTING'
Strengths:
VERY comfortable, waterproof, no problems so far!! Great value

[Update 07/01/07] Comfy to start with but it's all downhill after that... Trust me :-(

Weaknesses:
the leather seems to rip a little to easy (only cosmetic)

[Update 07/01/07] Shocking durability, very little shock absorbtion. I wouldn't go near them with a bargepole now.

Overall:
I have had no real problems with it, and if you are considering berghaus explorers go for these. I think you would struggle to do better and have change from £100

[Update 07/01/07] I had previously written a good review about these boots. If it in any way persuaded you to buy them I can only apologise. In the last couple of months they have began to leak, the shape has warped, most of the ankle support seems to have been become none existant and sole has worn away at an alarming rate.

I will never buy another brasher product again.

'A GOOD, COMFORTABLE, AFFORDABLE BOOT.'
Strengths:
Affordable, durable and comfortable.
Good lacing system.
They take the knocks and scrapes of walking and scrambling well.
I find they give my feet and ankles ample support.
Weaknesses:
Get a bit hot in the summer; I get around this by taking them off when I stop for lunch and let my feet and boots air a bit.

After three years of regular use the weltsa are begining to come unwelded where the crease across the toe meets the welt on the inside of the foot.
Overall:
A durable, comfortable, affordable boot that represents excellent value for money. I am seriously considering buying another pair soon.

'GOOD COMFORTABLE BOOT'
Strengths:
Good stiff sole, and the anti-clog outsole works superbly. They will take a good thrashing.
Weaknesses:
I am a little disappointed as after just 2.5 years the fabric lining has come away from the leather pad at the back of the heel which has left them a little uncomfortable now, which is a real shame as I was finding them really good.
Overall:
Really good entry level boot that could so easily be improved with one minor tweak

'COMFORTABLE REASONABLY PRICED BOOT'
Strengths:
Amazingly comfortable out of the box.
Price not too bad.
The anti-clogging sole seems to work well.
Weaknesses:
Sole lacks grip on some surfaces compared to some boots I've worn. Wet stiles and rock particularly.
Waterproof membrane makes boots a bit sweaty in summer (but not too bad).
Overall:
I bought these about 18 months ago and have done a few hundered miles in them. They are well made and very comfortable. The comfort does seem to come at the price of having less support than a boot using stiffer leather though.

I'm not too convinced about the need for a waterproof membrane in a leather boot, it does make them a bit hot in summer. However not enough to be a major problem.

'NOT AS GOOD AS EXPECTED'
Strengths:
Good self cleaning sole, handled wetting out well, no leaks.
Weaknesses:
Despite being worn in, after first wetting out of leather, the forefoot fold deformed and meant that the first brass eyelet pressed through the lining and into goretex bootee and directly into top of the big toe joint.
Overall:
Great apart from the apparent shrinking leather and associated problems with the brass eyelets.
