'REALLY COMFORTABLE BOOT'
Strengths:
Comfortable from day one, Stable and supportive which was really important as I have a damaged ankle from a climbing accident a few years ago. The high ankle cuff was especially supportive.
Weaknesses:
I bought them about 18 months ago and a couple of the luggs on the sole came off in strips, which rendered them useless, apart from that no weakness'
Overall:
Ive done tons of heavy walking in these and I was gutted to lose a very decent pair of boots, and now can't find a retailer that still sells them with the high ankle cuff.

'COMFY, WATERPROOF BOOTS'
Strengths:
Comfortable to wear
Extremely tough
Pleasantly stiff
Look decent
Little stitching
Extremely waterproof
Fit wide feet
Weaknesses:
Take ages to dry once they get old
Leather goes a nasty grey after a while
Raichle ain't got the best after-sales service, if you need it
Heavy and hot for mid-summer
Are quite 'high' - make you feel a little further from the ground than in a lower boot
Overall:
I've done about 700 miles in mine, over 4 years and have treated them well off the hill. They should still be going after 1000 miles, and that's good payout for the boots.
I've never had any problems with them leaking, despite doing the Lyke Wake Walk wading for 18 hours, amongst other soggy experiences.
I bought a pair of Raichle's mountaineering boots on the strength of these, and haven't been dissapointed there either.

'GREAT TO WEAR, BUT DIDN'T LAST TOO LONG'
Strengths:
Like the others say - comfortable right out of the box.
Weaknesses:
Completely failed in less than three years.
Overall:
I was really chuffed with these boots at first as they were very comfortable and easy to walk in. After about eighteen months of average use on short walks and mountain walks, the material between the boot part and the sole started to fail leaving a gap in the heel. I repaired this but the problem only worsened. Now, after less than three years, the heel has collapsed and the waterproofing has failed, so the boots are no use for serious walking any more.
Perhaps just short of three years is acceptable for the life of a good boot, but I had expected a little longer.
I now have the problem of whether to buy another pair as they are so comfortable or try another make in the hope they might last longer.

'VERY COMFORTABLE BOOT'
Strengths:
Very comfortable and supportive, and now with a good grippy sole unit which doesn't fall apart like some of the previous ones used by Raichle. Uppers are made of good quality leather which is easy to look after and should last for years. The Gore-Tex lining works for me, although I know some people find them sweaty. I don't, and my feet have stayed dry when plugging through snow and bog for hours on end.
Weaknesses:
I now tend to use approach shoes for most of the year, so find these boots a bit heavy, but no more so than comparable models. What I do use them for is winter walking in snow, when they work very well with flexible crampons. Also, why do so many manufacturers use a combination of smooth and nubuck leather, as in these boots? It just makes them that little bit more complicated to clean.
Overall:
A good boot for heavy duty use, although no longer my first choice.
