'A GOOD BELAY DEVICE'
Strengths:
It’s a simple design (with a few refinements) and works. I have used it for over 2 years now and had no problems; it feeds nicely, is kind on ropes yet still holds a fall well.
Can be used with half or single ropes in a range of diameters(8.5mm-12mm).
Cheaper than many alternatives.
Weaknesses:
Like all belay device is does get hot on long abseils.
I would personally find it a bit too slick for ropes narrower than 8.5 mm to belay a leader with but then DMM say “The Bug is a classic belay device, happiest handling ropes from 9 to 11mm”.

With a fat 11mm+ rope it is a little difficult to push a blight though the device but once in it works and feeds fine.
Overall:
I highly recommend it.

'SOUPED UP ATC...'
Strengths:
Well made, with ickle baby rugosities to increase surface area and heat dissipation.
Weaknesses:
Care needed with retaining wire.
Overall:
Much like the ATC reviewed above, but rather than the ATCs simple rope slots the bug has slightly kidney shaped slots designed to hold the rope better. In practice not a huge difference but slightly harder to thread ropes especially 11mms of that slightly hairy vintage. So it's a bit less slick and slightly easier to hold falls. Recommended if you have a lardy partner who falls off things. So why does my wife have one?

'THE BEST OF ALL WORLDS!'
Strengths:
This is the one. The best one I've ever used! Imagine the slickness of an ATC, and it's close (a little more pronounced on 11mm ropes). Imagine the stopping power of the Variable Controller, and it's almost there. Plus it's lightweight.
Weaknesses:
Can be hard to thread a thick rope, and as a jack-of-all-trades, it isn't a master of any.
Overall:
It isn't really a jack-of-all-trades, master of none. More like the ATC is the CEO of the slickness corporation, and the VC is the Chief Director, of the Stopping Power conglomorate, and the Bug is the Vice-Chairman of both!

'I LIKE IT'
Strengths:
Slick easy to use kicks the VC's bum in terms of performance I feel better/safer been belayed and belaying with this
Weaknesses:
The wire is prety soft and on my first use managed to get caught in the rope with was a bit un-nerving for both partys. no problems since though
Overall:
A quality belay device I like it
