| 'LIGHTWEIGHT WINTER MOUNTAINEERING JACKET' | | Strengths: Very Light, packs down small, hood moves with head, hood fits over helmet, pockets accessible when wearing rucksac, abrasion resistant patches, articulated elbows. | | Weaknesses: Unnecessary second zip for attaching fleece adds to weight, floppy hood peak, pit zips awkward to adjust when wearing, lining makes it warm for the summer. Cost. | | Overall: Excellent for winter/alpine use. Not really designed (intended?) for summer. Thus ratings reflect winter usage. |

| 'NICE BIT OF KIT!' | | Strengths: Got mine for £125 in sale this year. No probs with it. Breathes quite well but not suited for summer . | | Weaknesses: Full price a bit steep. | | Overall: I like it for winter use but a bit warm for summer. Other than that a good buy. |

| 'GOOD, LIGHTWEIGHT MOUNTAIN JACKET' | | Strengths: reasonably lightweight, packs down small, good ventilation, close fit without being too restrictive. good hood. | | Weaknesses: not really good in summer months - not light enough. | | Overall: Very comfortable jacket. Great on hills, mountains, wet, snow... not so good in summer rain! Maybe a touch expensive at full price. But a very good jacket. |

| 'DOES JOB IN STYLE' | | Strengths: great cut and lenghth good adjustment for personal fit all pockets available with pack on
| | Weaknesses: hood visor is a bit flimsy overly warm in spring and summer
| | Overall: Used mine for a couple of years in a wide variaty of conditions from the hindu kush to pubs in London, still looks like new and performs well. Has been designed to look modern and performwell which seems the norm with TNF kit. |

| 'EXPENSIVE BUT WORTH IT !!' | | Strengths: Pocket accessability, great breathability, fairly light for type of jacket. Good quality feel. Great for casual urban wear as well as on mountain. Great fit - excellant movement. core vents work well - even keep out the wet in moderate rain. Looks pretty good | | Weaknesses: Hood design is not good - the peak is too floppy and could do with a stiffener. The large upper 2 pockets are not large enough to hold an OS map. Being an American manufacturer - The north Face Zips are opposite to european zips, if you did want to zip a fleece in for urban use you can only use a North Face Fleece. Being 2 layer Gortex XCR it has a loose liner that could make it warm during summer use - however I've had no problems during this summer | | Overall: Good piece of kit that should wear well. Expensive but should last a long time if looked after. Great performance when you need it |

| 'WARM, LIGHT, TRENDY BUT POOR, UNVISORED, LEAKY HOOD' | | Strengths: Good fit, fairly trendy, good compromise between a long and a short jacket (not too long or too short), very breathable, IA zips good for town use where you can zip in a fleece or the Nuptse jacket to make an excellent parka. | | Weaknesses: Hood is dreadful, no visor and the holes for the elastic direct water striaght down your neck (basic testing should have spotted this). I have stitched in a plastic half-moon shape cur from a Lenor bottle into the visor and the hood works great now. Also re-routed the hood elastics. There is a sleeve pocket for keys but it's useless as the zip always sticks. TNF becoming a bit chavvy.... Too warm for summer, I keep this for my winter jacket. | | Overall: Basically a really good fitting and good looking jacket that is very breathable and should be a long-term favourite. Simply let down by a poor hood that is fixable with a bit of work.
Got mine for £115 so it gets a high value rating at that price. |
