| 'MEDIOCRE' | | Strengths: Very warm when new. | | Weaknesses: Pile flattens when older and the cuffs lose their elasticity. When I run warm I like to pull up the sleeves to aid cooling. After a couple of washes they stay annoyingly baggy. | | Overall: I have several micro fleeces from the cheap to the expensive. The technopiles remain the warmest and sadly for Berghaus I have a cheaper Gelert micro fleece which has stood up to the wash, wear and abuse test far better. |

| 'Versatile lightweight top/baselayer' | | Strengths: Light, warm and durable, with attractively simple styling. Handy chest pocket is big enough for glasses or wallet. Generous zip for venting. | | Weaknesses: Zip irritates under the chin when done up. Even on the small size, the overall size and sleeve length is very generous: best on the over-5'10"s. Pile has flattened quite a bit after 2 year's use, but then it has been worn and washed a lot. | | Overall: I wore this a lot before the ladies' version came out. It's a rather voluminous fit, but has some useful features such as long zip and pocket which have been sacrificed on the ladies' model, presumably for aesthetic reasons. Ideal as an outer layer for moving around in cold weather, and also doubles as extra-warm underwear or sleepwear. Not warm enough for sitting about in, except in warmer weather, and not especially windproof. |

| 'GOOD EXTRA LAYER' | | Strengths: Warm lightweight and small pack size. Good deep front zip for venting. Comfy and soft.
| | Weaknesses: Very little resistance to wind, but then you're not likely to be wearing without a shell in windy conditions. | | Overall: Very comfy top. Ideal for carrying as an extra layer to slip on under other layers when it gets chilly. Deep front zip means its easy to cool off if you get too warm. Mine gets worn a LOT. |

| 'TOP LIGHTWEIGHT TOP!' | | Strengths: Lightweight, crunchable and packable, long zip, nice high collar. Lovely soft fleece. | | Weaknesses: Wind whistles through. Zip can irritate throat when done fully up. Pile has flattened on my "older" one. | | Overall: This is a top lightweight fleece pullover in Polartech 100. I bought one years ago and have invested in another as they are soooooo good.
Over the time the original one has flattened the pile, but when new (and say in it's first year of ownership) it has a lovely pile and is very soft.
The zip is long and there's a nice deep collar, but the zip can bend into the throat when it's fully done up, which can get a bit annoying.
On the downside the wind fairly whistles through the top but it's not to be worn as outerwear. I suspect that in these days of windstopper, and the like that it'll become a thing of the past to wear these type of jumpers, but they make great tops for wearing about camp, and are superb when worn for a bit of extra warmth when sleeping.
It's really packable and is ideal also to be chucked into the rucky as a bit of "emergency clothing" or as a spare layer to chuck on when it gets really chilly up on the tops. I tend to carry one wrapped up in a ziplock bag. (They also make a great pillow!) |

| 'EXTREMELY VERSATILE FLEECE' | | Strengths: Like baby bear's porridge: not too warm, not too cold, but just right. Chest pocket very useful. | | Weaknesses: None to speak of. | | Overall: I have an older version in microfleece (bought in 1997) that is still doing good service. And I wear it a lot, for running, walking, rowing, and around the house. Can be worn over base layer or on its own. |
