'CHEAP, GREAT, INDESTRUCTIBLE'
Strengths:
In addition to all the other comments, see below(above?) 1. they are really easy to put on when your hand is wet and cold (other gloves can be a nightmare if the inner gets wet) and 2. they can go on either hand - I only discovered this in a blizzard on Cairngorm this summer(?) when they were covered in ice.
Weaknesses:
Yes, you take them off to do the compass stuff.
Overall:
Brilliant, can't think of the temperature that will give you cold hands with these on.

'OLD SCHOOL, BUT WORK VERY WELL.'
Strengths:
Very warm, even when wet.
Weaknesses:
Loss of dexterity, plus no grip dots means that you often have to take them off to carry out any manual tasks.
Overall:
Might not want these as my only gloves but paired up with some good liners and you simply will not have cold hands. Worth noting that the sizing can be on the small side and you may want to get a size bigger than normal.

'THEY LOOK SILLY BUT WORK'
Overall:
These may look like ordinary wool mitts, but they are a wolf in sheeps clothing! Extremely warm even when wet. Probably not ideal as your only pair of gloves, but worth keeping a spare pair in your rucksack on winter climbs.

'EVEN WET THEY WORK'
Strengths:
warm up even the coldest hand
Weaknesses:
not a fashion runner but up on the mountains in the teeth of winter who cares
Overall:
if you suffer from bad circulation and feel the cold buy a pair and feel more in control when the weather is extreme.
