'PERFECT FOR WINTER WALKING'
Strengths:
Light, packs small, warm (even when wet), water resistant.
Weaknesses:
Not waterproof, try them on to check sizing before you buy.
Overall:
I bought these as a back-up glove for a winter climbing trip. I ended up wearing them more than anything else. The pile feels warm and dry, even wehn the gloves are damp. They are perfect for keeping your hands warm while walking in snowy conditions.

'SURPRISING REALLY'
Strengths:
Very lightweight, take up little space and fast drying.
Weaknesses:
Mitts never fit like gloves do they? There are no clips to clip them together. I am thinking about having strings up the sleeves!
Overall:
I bought two pairs of these, one for the other half and one for me. My first thought when I opened the packaging was "these will be crap". How wrong could I be. Don't be fooled by the lightweight construction, they really are quite warm. At £20 a pair they still seem expensive, but what price warm hands is the way that we should be thinking. The acid test is if I lost them would I buy another pair. I would despite the way that mitts fit so awkwardly. Do the wrist straps up tight and you will get more comfort and a better fit.

'WARM 'N COZY'
Strengths:
Buffalo mitts are great in cold and changable conditions they offer pretty decent dexterity for a mitt, I have used two pairs on each hand in really rough winters in the Highlands.
Weaknesses:
The mitts will become soaked in heavy rain but dry fast, a shell maybe required in constant rain.
Overall:
cheap, light ,dry real fast ,last really well , get some.

'JUST IN CASE'
Strengths:
good light warm mitts that I take with me everytime I go on the hill. 2 pairs are great in really cold weather
My wife also has a pair that due to bad circulation wears pretty much all year round.
Weaknesses:
Not waterproof but dry very quickly (so not a major problem except in heavy continuous rain)
Difficult to get on with wet hands
Overall:
very good mitts that are cheap, warm, light and dry quickly. With a waterproof outer make a good mitt system.

'GREAT VALUE, LIGHTWEIGHT AND VERY WARM. '
Strengths:
Excellent mitts - carry these as a spare but often end up wearing them as they are warmer than any gloves I have. Nice and light too and reasonable dexterity for a mitten.
Weaknesses:
Sizing is a bit odd, so try them on first - I fit an extra large in these but am usually a medium! (Not of the spiritual kind).
Overall:
Very warm and excellent value for money. Like them so much I have just bought an extra pair!

'LIGHT, FINE WEATHER INSULATION'
Strengths:
Light weight, snug fit, hands stay warm even when mitts soaking wet, good price.
Weaknesses:
Easily sodden. Difficult to change twist grip gears on bikes.
Overall:
Excellent for general walking in winter. They are very light and thin and consequently do not inspire much confidence compared to other chunkier gloves or mitts. However, they are deceptively warm and are totally windproof and breathable making them ideal for dry cold conditions as part of a lightweight clothing system.

The main problem with these gloves is that they are not waterproof enough. A couple of hours on Helvellyn using an ice axe soon soaked the mitts through. Having sodden mitts on a mountain in full winter conditions can have pretty serious cosequences, but the mitts still mangaged to keep my hands warm despite the drenching. I think it would still be advisable to invest in some waterproof overmitts though.

Another problem is changing gear with twist grip gears. Because the mitts are made with a layer of pertex and an inner layer of pile which are not stitched along the palm, any gripping action is hampered by slippage between the two fabrics. But if your are not a mountain biker then these gloves are well worth a look.

'GREAT PIECE OF MINIMAL KIT'
Strengths:
Lightweight, very warm, good value.
Weaknesses:
Try on before you buy, due to strange sizing especially between thumb and first finger.
Overall:
Bought a pair of good gloves but havent had to wear them yet because these are more than adequate for normal hiking use i also recommend the buffalo hood for the special 6 shirt

'MAKING A DECENT FIST OF IT'
Strengths:
Light, tough and oh-so-comfy. Dry out exceptionally quickly and keep your digits remarkably warm.
Weaknesses:
No grip at all. XXL "overmitt" size isn't nearly big enough for arctic use, despite Buffalo's claims. As with any mitten your dexterity drops to that of an especially clumsy rice pudding when wearing them.
Overall:
Excellent value and toasty warm, these are the mitts to reach for when the temperature drops. Buffalo claim that the XXL size is an overmitt for serious arctic use, but many people are going to need a size above that (and there isn't one) or else find that their inner glove/mitt gets seriously squashed, which is not good in severe cold. The pile inner tends to bind badly if worn over fleece gloves, but over another pair of Buffalo mitts there are no such problems. Buy them as a backup even if you choose something else as your main handwarmers: when things get tough your fingers will thank you for it.
