GPS
GPS is an acronym for Global Positioning System. Put simply, in the outdoor world, GPS refers to a hand held receiver for a satellite-based radio positioning systems that provides 24 hour three-dimensional position, velocity and time information anywhere on or near the surface of the Earth (and sometimes off the earth). Basic models are now available for well under £100 and can indicate altitude, bearing, and position, as well as storing waypoints and routes.
