The original Monster from Grivel was at the forefront of the equipment revolution which began in 2004-2005. This advancement has continued with the arrival of the X Monster. The shaft is slightly straighter, and the grip is better for vertical walls. The thinner, shorter pick is perfect for fragile ice, or gaining placements in narrow cracks.

The flexible shaft that so many climbers have discovered makes anchoring in cracks easier and safer, and the almost hammer-like rear of the pick is great for anchoring and torqueing in larger cracks on mixed terrain.
