GREAT TOOL.

Handmade work of art. Very good high carbon steel keep it's edge well and is easy to sharpen to a (genuine) razors edge. Big enough to use with two hands when you need a bit more ooomph, small enough to use one handed for some suprisingly delicate carving tasks. Also small enough to pack in a daysack. Comes complete with a little book so that you'll know exactly who made your axe and how to care for it. It will last a lifetime if you care for it properly.

Not really a weakness but this is a proper axe that requires a certain amount of care.

A joy to use and probably the most flexible bushcraft axe available. Top quality materials and superb craftsmanship make this a rare 'value for money' find. If you chop fire wood make feather sticks or build shelters from scratch this is a must. Learn to use it though you really don't want to get bitten by one of these.

A BRILLIANT ALL-ROUND HANDAXE

Easily portable.
Razor sharp from the factory.

None, except maybe the price - but you get what you pay for.

Small enough to be carried in a day sack but big enough to take on any job you'd reasonably expect to do, from felling respectable-sized trees to close cutting tasks you'd normally use a knife for. A superb top-quality tool that will last a lifetime with only a little TLC.

Annoyed after the head fell off on my £5 axe the first trip out with it, I set about searching for the best small axe in the world...I have found it...
This axe will chop through small lumber like no other and has generated a whole new respect for the tool that it is - If you want the best, look no further.

The Gransfors Bruks Small Forest Axe, known affectionately as the 'Granny B' is a swedish hand forged woodsmans axe. Heavy enough to chop most small timber but with an edge sharp enough to use as a knife. It comes with a first class hickory handle and a leather sheath. All materials are top notch and you don't want to head into the wilderness without one. The only gripe is the price, between £35 and £50 depending where you buy from, but offset this against the quality of workmanship and you'll understand why they cost a bit more than the £4.99 specials from the hardware store. The poll on the axe can be used as a hammer too, for driving in pegs and the like. Each axe comes complete with 'The Axe Book' which gives you care and safety instructions and a history of the Gransfors factory. Images can be found at www.gransfors.com
