LOVELY

Provides warmth, talking point, friendly, not all that heavy, not much to go wrong, waterproof.
Heavier and more expensive than other, more common, lighting systems.
I really like my candle lantern and usually take it on winter hikes and summer hikes when I'm not counting the grams. It chucks out a reasonable amount of light - certainly enough for most tent / tarp tasks (there's just enough light for me to read by for example).

It deals with the wind very well, is moderately tough and very easy to work with. Also, it chucks out a fair amount of heat, which although not that noticeable under a tarp, is great in a tent (helps keep condensation at bay).

Word to the wise - never touch the top once it's been lit. Mine has a very nice permanent thumb print burnt into the top : )

Would I buy another if it was broken? Yep. And since I've had mine for 20 years, I'd say that it's a good piece of kit.
