Great beginner all rounder

Cheap, sturdy, easy to use, colour coded.
Sore to hang in for long
Bought this as my first harness and still use it. I have used it from scottish winter mountaineering to inddor and outdoor rock climbing. Fits easily over rain gear without any fuss.

PERFECT CENTRE HARNESS

Color coded (new ones anyway), simple,
Because its a one piece you have to make sure you do up the waist belt first, putting it away with straps fully undone means you can loose the bungees on the back. Horizontally aligned belay loop means for most belay devices they must be orientated correctly for the wearers preferance of dead and live rope hands.
Its a great harness for group use as its so simple to put on and cheap. Its not comfortable to hang in though.

SIMPLE, ADJUSTABLE HARNESS

My Venture unit owns about 10 of these and they are ideal for this because:
- They are very adjustable, you can have a lardy Venture scout in them then the next day use them for taking cubs out
- Cheap, obviously important if you are buying a lot for a centre/group/club
- Hardwearing (ours get a lot of use)
- Seem quite secure
- I agree with comments above about inversion, makes me a little bit nervous on overhangs
- For me, quite uncomfortable whilst hanging on the rope especially in certain 'sensitive' areas
Fine for what we use it for, simple and cheap.

FOR CLIMBING CENTRES ONLY

Simple, lightweight and hardwearing. Highly adjustable. Cheap.
The buckles can be a little fiddly, especially with gloves. The high tie-in point opens the possibility of inversion in certain types of fall, making it less suitable as a mountaineering harness than its competitors.
Although this is fine for indoor and single pitch climbing, there are more comfortable choices around, if less adjustable. And for mountaineering, there are better designs. I can understand why this is a popular centre harness, but the individual has more and better choices.

A SIMPLE WELL DESIGNED ALPINE HARNESS

Simple webbing design means that it is lightweight, a great necessity in Alpine use. Fully adjustable to get on over crampons etc. Has an excellent easy to find with mitts on belay loop. We used to use in the mountaineering club as a basic club harness for novices and proved very good and hard wearing.
Probably not the best harness for sports climbers, but then it isn't designed for that.
An excellent simple easy to use Alpine harness that can also make a good club novice harness.
