THE BUSINESS

Constantly available without faffing around with bottle / closures. Fits very well into my rucksack hydration pocket making it very stable to lug around.
Fiddly to fill. Although robust, doesn't like sharp edges (put an ice screw through one, forgot to put the cap on the screw!). Needs to be be well cleaned between outings.
Without a doubt, one of the best pieces of gear for the hill you can have. If you buy one, you will forget it's there and just drink when you need to without thinking about. I use mine in winter when ice climbing as well, and as long as you remember to blow the tube back it doesn't freeze up (so far anyway).

A REFRESHING CHANGE (TO WATER BOTTLES)

Lightweight, pack-downable when empty, keeps you hydrated when on the move.
Apparently they can puncture, but I've not experienced this, and mine is several years old. My bite valve has been bitten too much and has a slow drip leak, but replacements are available, if expensive. Also, unlike some of the competitors, they don't have a lock valve - so if for instance, as once happened to me, you put your rucksack in a luggage compartment and the bite valve gets squashed, the contents will empty all over the place.
Cheaper than some of the competitors (e.g. CamelBak). Despite my picky weaknesses, once you've got a 'hydration system' you will nearly always use it.

QUICK EASY REFRESHING

2 litres of water and no taking your pack off your back every 5 mins
Hard to dry properly (but half fill with water and stick it in the Freezer until you need it next time, it won't go mouldy!)
Nice and easy to carry, but I'd take a spare bottle just in case>

GREAT TO USE, BUT PEOPLE WILL STARE !

You can put lots of water in it. So easy to use. 'Nuff said.
It's pricey for a plastic bag with a tube attached to it.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so I'm told. Although I was fully hydrated the whole day, when I first packed my Platypus for a trip, my wife laughed solid at me for 27 minutes (and then intermittently throughout the day).
Cleaning the tube is a bit tricky too.
I use this for all manner of walking and biking trips and journeys. It's sooooo easy to drink from.
People may stare but I don't care - I bite on my valve and hydrate to my heart's content.
