CHEAP, VERSATILE AND RELIABLE

Tough, with an unloseable permanently attached lid that's perfect to attach a carabiner to. Clear plastic means you can see what's in it and how much is left. Easy to clean, and easy to see when it needs cleaning. Wide mouth makes it easy to fill, even from streams, and allows it to be used as a food bowl or pee receptacle. Only if you've got more than one, it goes without saying.
Can be stained by certain sports drinks. The fat shape means it won't fit in all rucksack or clothing pockets as readily as a slimmer bottle.
A terrific multipurpose bit of kit, cheaper and far more hygienic than a Sigg. Measuring marks on the side make it useful for rehydrating dried food precisely. A pity the very handy insulating sleeve (which you buy separately) is not widely available in the UK.

invincible, user friendly, good value kit

stronger than a sigg bottle, transparent with measuring marks so you know how much drink you've got and if its mouldy. Cheap.
looks like a giant jam-jar, melts if you put it on the stove, still easily my fave bit of kit.
A US made polycarbonate bottle (same material as motorbike visors) impossible to break, crack or dent - I've dropped it (full) onto rock from 18m and it bounced up about 10 feet. Full diameter screw lid has no perishing rubber bits, is permanently attached to bottle (with a big krab-freindly loop)so it can't be lost, doesn't freeze the drink as fast metal in low temperatures. Its clear so you can see when there's mould, easily clean it off through the huge lid, and being plastic it doesn't breed limescale either. Marked with both imperial and metric measurements up to 1 litre, so you can work out how much Gatorade or milk powder to shovel in. And its £6.99!
