The best traction - ever!

I have had 2 pairs of these now - they really grip so well. A tremendously aggresive sole and a hard surrond.
The first pair rotted off my feet (a lot of peat I guess) after about 8 months. Not the most comfortable shape, you will have to wear them in.
A great shiw for steep grassy slopes

TYPICALLY INOV-8...

Inov 8 come up trumps
possibly not for the wider foot. Can't vouch for these ones but past Inov-8 have started to tear on the outside, just after the toe cap
I have been using INOV 8 fly-roc & Mud-roc for years..I love them..They grip when you need them too and I find them the perfect weight for me when running...above and beyond any of my road running shoes...
They look great too if that is important to you.
Good price and totally comfortable..
I have trekked in Sri Lanka jungle, run all over Wales and plenty of other places...Better than Salomon, Better than Ron Hill ETA (and they are good)

GRIPPIER THAN A GRIPPY THING GRIPPING ONTO A GRIP.

They are great running shoes for steep terrain. They give confidence for moving fast on terrain that many other hill shoes simply couldn't handle well at half the speed.
I have found with all inov8's that it takes a couple of weeks for feet and shoes to get properly comfy with each other. The soles of your feet can get very hot with inov8's on very fast descents.
I personally love these shoes, and think that they are well priced for the performance they give. Inov8's are very durable and more robust than they look.

Excellent!

Aggressive sole, pretty lightweight, and doesn't soak up too much when the rain comes. They're great on steep stuff, and the fairly long and slightly flexible studs give a bit of shock absorption when the fell turns into stone or road, without having a big bouncy EVA section that would reduce the aggressiveness on grass.
Heavier than the race (270) version but the uppers and soles are far more durable. Slippery as hell on wet wooden bridges!! (but it seems all fell shoes are). They are quite expensive too, and not the most durable shoe in the world.

Unless you're running on steep grass and mud, a pair of trail shoes would probably be a better compromise.
If you use them for their intended purpose then they're amazing. They're a great shoe with a close fit (you can steam the heels to suit you, but Inov-8 don't tell you that unless you ask them) and a good compromise between aggression, weight and durability.
