Slipping them on, despite my reservations about the lacing system, getting a secure and comfortable fit was easy even on a finger freezing winter day

Technical Lowdown Salomon have chucked their technical kitchen sink at these shoes. The outsole is their proven Mud and Snow non-marking Contagrip. Great grip for a trail shoe, lightweight and not crippling on the road.
 
Minimally inclined runners will find it too cushioned, not up to genuinely technical terrain and not 100% convinced by waterproofing.
