LIGHT, VIBRAM SOLE

grippy sole even on wet rock, good fit for broad feet, excellent heel cup, breathability and dry very quickly.
cuff area around ankle can rub if laced up too tight, tongue material leaks
the leather part of the boot is waterproof but is let down by leaky tongue material and abrasive ankle cuff cloth.

COMFORTABLE BUT LEAKY

Comfortable, wide fit.Light, flexible and with good grip. Appear well made. Breathable
Both boots let in water at the juntion of the tongue and toe. The lower top part of my feet are damp if the boots get wet. Rest of foot is ok
good boot but not suitable for wet conditions.

First impressions a tempting boot

The vibram sole is always a plus on any boot for me and these boots were the lightest i've ever worn. ( 400g each boot )
The new ion mask water proofing is a brand new concept and appealed to me.
The back cuff is rather low and the man made composition of the inner cuff spoilt this boot for me.Along with the ribbing and abrasive feel on the ankle. The tongue to the boot has a pointed shape and on tightening the laces to try and stop the cuff rubbing caused discomfort to the foot.
I feel that should Hi-Tec could have put more effort into concentrating on comfort and not skimped on the cuff area, then this would have been an acceptable boot.I bought mine on a Friday and had to take them back to the shop on Wednesday. This was due to the cuff area on the boots they were ribbed badly and were abrasive on my heel. After four days the cuff material folded on itself and formed a ridge. This is unacceptable for any pair of boots and i was very unhappy about this.I would not have risked a day on the fells with them.(Blisters r us).The tongue on the boot is to padded and the wrong shape and caused discomfort. In future i will continue to buy boots with a leather lined cuff apart from boots that i use for a day scampering in the low lands.
I would not trust this boot and have concerns about the their reliability and durability.Maybe i was unlucky with the pair i bought but i did examine another pair in the shop when i took mine back and the ribbing was present in these. Time wil tell
