Ive had two field jackets in the last 30 years and the first one was second hand. The one I bought new as someone nicked my first is as good today as when I bought it. It may not be stylish or colourful but it does what you want from it, it keeps you warm. I have had many other fleeces over the years and all look shabby after a season or two, let alone the build quality. The only repair Ive ever had to do on my field jacket is redo the stitching on the pocket zip that got caught on my car keys. Ive seen winters come and go and a couple of wives for that matter but 'the green jacket 'goes on and on.

I've had mine since 1986. The binding is starting to come off the bottom edge, but that's all.
I notice that they are still available as industrial workwear, £60 here

Endicotts stock the wool mix HH fleeces (ex Dutch Army) - from £13-£30 depending on condition.
