Paramo Fuera Ascent / Summit Hoodie
Not only a windproof and a fleece, but also a system that's actually waterproof when worn together.

What's It For? Quite a few outdoor people choose to use a combination of fleece and windproof rather than a single lined garment because it's a versatile solution allowing you to use both together or either of the two components individually.Paramo's taken things a stage further by not only by designing ...  Continue reading

"And as long as water isn't under high pressure, it works. Just avoid leaning against wet crags and you'll be fine" why?

I think Jon adds these throwaway comments to stir us up!

Well done Paramo...

...another interesting top for us to admire, but never be able to use in the real world as the sleeves are too short.

I cannot be the only person that thinks that Paramo might be just the technology I want in a jacket (I have their trousers and shirts) for walking and mountaineering, but cannot use them as the sleeves are no good if your hands are lifted up anywhere near your waist let alone above your head.

If the Quito had a bigger hood and more pockets then we might be in business. Oh well, here's hoping.

"If the Quito had a bigger hood and more pockets" then it wouldn't be light. it also meshes with the summit hoodies with the arm vents.

depends how long your arms are in proportion to your jacket size. i found the arms to be just fine. i hate the useless pockets in the ascent.

people often mention sleeve length in relation to garments for what they think the sleeve length should be for what they want to do rather than what for which the garment was designed which tends to dictate the sleeve length.

Parky is correct. Paramo waterproofs aren't designed for climbing unless any water is in the form of ice.

and ideally in a glass of something.

why would a jacket touted as suitable for "hill & hike" and "multi activity" be considered suitable for mountaineering?

Posted: 18/11/2009 at 13:54

I only mention arm length as all other brands fit me fine in the sleeve, whereas Paramo are too short full stop. I don't just mean for climbing, they don't cover my wrists when walking around in the shop, never mind in wind and rain. I'm only a size medium as well. My comment on arm lift was there to (over)emphasis the point.

I would have thought that anything called Ascent or Summit might involve some climbing (even if only over stiles) and the photos in the latest Parmao catalogue of the Aspira seem to suggest climbing. I could go on about multi-activity meaning just that etc. etc., but all I actually wanted to do was point out that all Paramo jackets would benefit from longer sleeves for me for any use and reading posts on other sites I don't seem to be alone in thinking this, but hey 'discussion' is all part of the fun...

Why wouldn't it?

I've used a Montane Featherlite for "hill and hike", skiing (touring, downhill and XC track), orienteering, cycling...

(If you want longer sleeves then go to Cioch or Hilltrek and have them make you up something in Analogy materials with exactly the length of sleeves you want.)

I use my Aspira for mountaineering. I accept that i may get wet from leaning on wet rock.

Paramo will alter stuff for you.  Don't know if they do sleeves, but they did a great job on lengthening a pair of trousers for me.  Didn't cost that much either.

you can use whatever you like for whatever you like peter as we all do. doesn't mean they are or have to be fit for your purpose though.

starnge about the paramo sleeves though. the only "short" (by design) ones i have are on my velez. i think the aspira sleeves may be of similarish lebgth too.

My Aspira sleeves are a perfect fit for me. They reach to the start of my fingers when loose. There is no lift on the hem when i reach above my head, with the sleeves fastened around my wrists.

ta mike. twas a long time ago i tried one in the shop. i recall it being quite voluminous.

(ye gods i was using the albanian keyboard before i think)

Maybe i'm a fat bastard, but my Aspira(smock) isn't too baggy on me. I wouldn't change anything about the fit. I'm 5'10", 42" chest and 34/35" waist, and a size Medium does me fine over a baselayer and a 100 weight fleece. Mine is a good few years old, so maybe the sizing has changed?

I also use a size XL Velez as a 'street' jacket, and i'm happy with the fit of that too!  I think you can wear various sizes of the same model depending on what you intend to use it for.

Doesn't mean that... but doesn't mean otherwise.  I use the Featherlite for all the above because it is not only fit for purpose, but very good for purpose.

5' 8" & 40" chest for me and an ever increasing waistline due to the "not smoking at the moment". i take a medium. i tried a large in various models and they're all a bit too big for the jacket. the large for waist has its attractions at the moment...

I found that the paramo jacket does not fit me unfortunately  however I went to furtech and found that I could use one of their size XL's as they are cut a bit slimmer in the chest area and therefore gain the arm length.

This type of system is now being used by quite a few companies so its worth looking around.  I think another is called finnistere?
