SUMMER JACKET

Cheap.

Nice summer jacket.

Good fit.

High neck to keep the wind out.
Not waterproof in anything more than summer showers.

Fills with condensation, so NOT very breathable either.

Crappy hood design.

A nice jacket for summer use ONLY as it's not waterproof OR breathable. I found out while trekking for a week on the West Highland Way in heavy rain, so lets just say i wasn't amused :-(

Would NOT recommend.

GOOD FOR THE PRICE

Stands up to the weather reasonably well. The price is good aswel, as I got mine brand new for £30 in a sale.
Being a tall guy, the length of the jacket is a problem for me. Also, the hood is pretty crap.
Good for Summer showers, but seriously wouldnt trust it in any harsher weather

ALMOST A GOOD JACKET

Light, Compact, Double Stormflap.
Hood, No Map Pocket.
Could have been a great jacket but the poor hood design makes it pretty usless in the sort of conditions that it could otherwise cope with. I wouldn't recommend it as there are alternatives at around the same rrp that are a much better design.

BRILLIANT EVERYDAY WATERPROOF FOR THE MONEY

Keeps the rain out every time, mine has never leaked.
Packs down pretty small and light considering it is lined and quite robust.
Looks reasonably normal unlike many other waterproofs,so you dont need to look like an anorak even though you,re wearing one!
Only £50 to £60.
Could be more breathable but only a problem when working hard and Ive encountered that on jackets more than twice as expensive.
I love my Berghaus RG1,it has taken everything Ive thrown at it. I wear mine for at least a hundred miles of cycling a week and it never lets me down.It looks really quite good as a casual jacket and loses the creases after it,s been stuffed in my daysac for hours.Despite considerable abuse it hasnt torn or marked whatsoever and still looks quite new.
I wouldnt take this sort of wayerproof out for a serious expedition but for everyday use it is perfect, and it saves me using my expensive more technical jacket for anything but the hills. You dont need three layers of goretex with stretch panels and eight pockets to cycle to work or the shops but you do want to stay dry!
One of the best fifty quids Ive spent.

NEVER LEAKED, GREAT VALUE, BAD HOOD

Even in heaving rain the material hasn't actually leaked on me, though it has crept in a lttle on the pocket zips. High collar keeps the wind out. Great value. Very robust - hasn't ripped or scuffed badly on rocks or bushes. Always seems to be a good fit.
Hood is very spacious but doesn't have stiffened peak - just a cinch cord. Consequently the wind tends to get under it and blow it from your head. Cinch cord is also non-specs friendly.
For £50-£60 this has kept me dry, the wind out, and one less hole in the pocket for a couple of years. The hood is the big problem, and of course it doesn't breathe anything like a more expensive jacket. You pays your money and takes your pick - but you could do worse.
