Lowe Alpine Flash Jacket
A fair few people out there with a suspicion of Gore-Tex will be keen to give the Flash a whirl

First Look

Reviewed: 23 November 2009 by Jon
Just in for review is Lowe Alpine's new Flash Jacket, a technical mountain hardshell made from a new version of their own-brand fabric, Triplepoint, dubbed Triplepoint Dynamic and rather evocatively for some of us, containing 'ceramic technology' and reviving fond memories of the old Triplepoint Ceramic material. The Flash - a ...  Continue reading

Not a million miles in overall design from my tried and trusted Lowe Atom (in TPC), though that weighs a bit less and cost rather less too, back in its day...  The only thing I've ever not been quite so keen on with that was a lack of hood wire, so its good to see that more international brands are discovering that "soft stiffening" in hood visors is usually Crap (TM).

Maybe it's nostalgia (TPC), but i think the jacket looks pretty good. Some nice features, and not heavy for a proper mountain jacket. I think it is a bit expensive though, considering they're not using the most expensive of fabrics.

I don't know that the fabric will be particularly cheap. I think there's a trend now where people are using higher spec PU-based fabrics which are actually very good but also cost more than the 'own brand' cheapo fabrics we're used to seeing as second tier stuff after Gore-Tex. It also has a lot of slightly fiddly features that will up the production costs.

Price is actually £200 and not £240 as we were originally told. Sorry for any confusion, I've updated the article accordingly.

Interesting... the 'containing ceramic technology', that is.

One reason I thought Lowe dropped TPC is Gore's objection to companies using Gore-tex also offering items in fabrics of comparable performance alongside their Gore-tex offerings...
