Mmm, I think I'd be better off with a waterproof hard shell....

Maybe yes Although this is a waterproof hard shell, its just one that they've sewn a thin thermal backer too for some very odd reason.

More sense than an equivalent windstopper garment I suppose, but still.

Nicely cut, highly breathable, pleasant soft shell feel with brushed liner.
 
Heavier than a conventional waterproof shell jacket, more suited to alpine than milder, wet British conditions, hood may be a little short for some and the peak isn't the stiffest.
