Rab Vapour-Rise Guide Jacket

Rab Vapour-Rise Guide Jacket
For pure, extreme cold conditions, winter use, the Vapour-Rise guide is a knock-out. It's warm and comfortable with a nice, soft feel to it, has decent mobility and handles moisture from inside and out really well.

Typically functional rab jacket; excellent fit, materials, breathability and cost. Ideal for British winter mountaineering and climbing. Probably equally adept in the alps although yet to test. Continue reading...

I was a lucky boy and got one of these from my wife at Christmas.

I've not had the chance to wear it much yet, largely because the winter in Scotland has been so mild, however I'd echo the comment about the warmth thing - I wore it out on a frosty morning for an extended Sunday dog walk and, despite the sub-zero air temperature, I found myself unzipping everything that could be unzipped when out route went uphill.

The upside is that once we arrived on top of a rather windy fell, it was toasty warm with everything zipped back up again. The liner has a really luxurious feel to it as well.

One other thing I'd mention is that the cut is a little looser than the VR smock I have, and in retrospect, I think I should have gone a size down and opted to wear it very close fitting as a next to skin garment.

I wore mine cragging on sunday in a bitter wind with some snow around and was still toasty. Love the big pockets too. I can see it becoming a fave piece of kit. I agree about the sizing though, as although Rab usually size smallish I fit a medium in this, despite usually being a large.

Need to know

Warm, breathable, well-specced, weather resistant and good in typically damp UK conditions with excellent overall comfort.

A little weighty, not 100% windproof, needs to be properly cold for it to really work well and it won't suit everyone.
