STILL GOING STRONG

Highly airtight,waterproof and flexible.
I have had no problems getting a map in it, but it can be fiddly.
Turns slightly yellow with UV exposure. But not so much as to obscure the map.
Superb. Would not leave without it.
Protcts the map from dirt and other nastys as well as moisture.

EXCELLENT BIT OF KIT

Waterproof
Rubber does not slip when you put a compass on it
Can write with pen on it
Remove the cord!
With the cord removed and map folded up in it, it fits well into my map pockets in either fleece or jkt. Do not wear it round your neck !

THE BEST MAP CASE

Totally waterproof
Very durable
Surprisingly versatile!
Neck cord is a waste of time
I've had this for a few years now and I'm hugely impressed with it. It is totally waterproof, as evidenced by the fact that you need to flatten the air out of it before folding over the roll-top closure. I have never had any condensation inside the case and the size means that you can see a good area of the map.

The material is very durable. Mine has been out in all weathers, dropped on rocks and bracken and is still very clear. The silicone feet on a Silva compass work excellently on the case material with no slippage, even in the rain.

The only weakness is the neck cord but then I don't know anyone who carries a map case around their neck anyway. I carry mine in my hand and the neck cord holes are handy for attaching a compass lanyard.

As well as using this map case as a sit mat, it is very useful in the tent porch. I use mine as a food prep area to keep spoons etc off the grass as it just wipes clean. I even once held it above my head while walking as a makeshift sunshade, having forgotten my hat.

Overall,an excellent bit of kit that will prolong the lives of your expensive OS maps.

YOU CAN READ YOUR MAP UNDERWATER IN THIS...

...well almost. I have a slight tear in the edge of the seal on mine but it has never let in any water despite living in my leg pocket while crawling through puddles, streams, snow, mud and stuff. Nuff said.
It's been properly abused but only has a couple of minor scratches.
Size is a bit of an issue, it can be very fiddley to fit a bulky map with improvised map folds in.
String loops are utter poo (not an issue for me as mine lives in a pocket).
This thing is an essential buy. While I agree with the other comments about the trapped air being annoying it helps to reassure me everytime I seal it that it's still waterproof. Cheap too as I got mine for a tenner.

GREAT MAP CASE FOR HOLDING IN YOUR HAND

waterproof, lasts really well,
the lanyard holes rip open too easily
wonderfully waterproof and lasts forever with the plastic staying soft and pliable. The lanyard holes are totally crap in comparison with the rest of the case and let it down. This is the biz if you do not need a lanyard but no use if you do. Fix this fault, Ortlieb, please!!!!
