Alpkit Filo Jacket, 2012
While the original Filo had a slightly rough around the edges, utilitarian feel to it, the new one is neater, slicker and all-round downier.

Alpkit's original Filo down jacket was killer value for money and for this winter, it's been upgraded to make it even better. The main change is a switch to a lighter, micro-ripstop Nylon shell fabric that has not only reduced the overall weight of the jacket by approximately 20%, but ...  Continue reading

Had one of the previous generation Alpkit jackets - very good value for money, and I had no problems with it in terms of manufacturing quality during the time I owned it.

The dealbreaker for me on that one, and the thing that would prevent me buying this one, is the detachable hood. I find that if it's cold enough to warrant a down jacket, I want the option of being able to flip the hood up and close it quickly, rather than faff with poppers. However if that's not an issue for you, it's hard to see how you could beat the Alpkit offering unless you source an alternative with a hefty discount.

I have the very first jacket they made and wifey used it last weekend and it's still warm/lofty and going strong.tough as old boots and great value for money.
Only down side is packability and weight.

my mam and dads got the filo's      they like them, always wearing them!

Walked passed my downstairs door the other day and caught my Rab The Edge down coat causing a huge rip down the arm!

That was a brilliant down coat far better than the current Neutrino! hardly wore the bleeder either!

They are great for warmth, my Filet is a daily user this time of year. I just wish they packed a bit smaller, I'd like to see the 2012 versions in the flesh to compare the new fabrics

Need to know

Good quality down, detachable hood with wired peak, light, warm and eminently affordable too. Lighter and smaller than the mark one Filo as well.

Not quite as slick as some much more expensive jackets, drop-tail won't appeal to everyone. Pocket liner catches on gnarly, chaffed hands. No stuff-bag supplied.
