Excellent lightweight synthetic jacket

cheap
hardwearing
pretty warm for the weight
getting it wet isnt a disaster
packs up reasonably small
good hood
nice colour
not waterproof
not as warm as a down jacket of equivalent weight
Love mine and still have the original. Think it is still a great jacket at a great price. Nice little features such as cinch cords in the right places and a good hood add to this useful synthetic jacket. If the weather looks like being poor I will reach for this in preference to my down jacket. Its stodd the test of time well with only one pocket fraying on the inside (easily repaired). Comfy and reasonably warm, its a really versatile jacket and still wear mine all year round

VERY LIGHT AND WARM FOR THE PACK SIZE AND WEIGHT

Light
Packs into its own pocket
Surprisingly warm
Great for camp evenings on expedition
Makes a good camp pillow
Best for light use/occasional wear
Bought this for chilly evenings in camp after days in the fells. It is no hassle to carry and brilliant for the job. I find myself using it for breaks/lunch as well. Its windproof and amazingly warm, particularly with hood up and weighs just over 400g. Once you turn in for the night it is just right as a camp pillow too.

LIGHT, WARM AND A GREAT FIT

Light
Small pack size (stuffs into one of the pockets)
Very good fit
Windproof
Well-fitting insulated hood
None really. One reviewer mentioned the lack of a volume adjuster on the hood but it fits my head very well without.
This jacket is only lightly insulated so suitable for cool rather than freezing conditions. Mind you, I wore it last weekend over a Montane Pulse shirt and a short-sleeved base layer in temperatures around zero C and I was fine.
It is windproof and certainly showerproof (I haven't worn it in a downpour so can't comment beyond that) and packs down really small. As with most Montane products, the fit is great.

As someone else pointed out, it is far better than a windproof fleece, being at least as warm but also showerproof and much lighter with a smaller pack size. It has replaced my Berghaus Choktoi.

Although not designed for scrambling or similar rough use, the Pertex outer is much more durable than it seems. I have snagged it on gateposts and things and it does not show any signs of wear.
