I've got to say, and I've said it before, Patagucci softshells are among the best for me, far better than stuff from Haglofs, Rab, ME etc, all of which tend to opt for Windstopper and Powershield fabrics for their jackets, which IMO are clammy and not true softshells.
Pertex is good if weather is fair(ish) but is just not durable or weather resistant enough to be a good all-rounder.
The quality and the bonded construction of Patagonia's top end jackets is also terrific, better than many of the rivals.
This jacket looks like a trimmer Winter Guide Jacket, which is superb. Maybe not essential for UK conditions, but a great addition nonetheless. I wear (just been out in the snow) a Dimension jacket, which alongside my Ready Mix, is the best jacket I have ever owned.
