Basic cheap walking trousers

Lightweight
Cheap
Come in a huge range of waist sizes and leg lengths
comfy
hardwearing
not waterproof
stated sizing can be a bit odd sometimes....best to try in the shop
not for winter
Yes, they are never going to be the best walking trouser out there but they arent half bad for the price. I got mine for £20 and used them exclusively before I found the walking bliss that is Ron Hills :)
They have a multitude of pockets, a reinforced knee, waist belt and come in a plethora of size combos. Having a short inside leg measurement is quite a pain when buying walking trousers but Craghopper do my waist/inside leg combo size.
Wore mine religiously for 2 years in 3 season conditions then swapped over to Ron Hill tracksters which are more comfy to be fair
If you are starting out, cant go far wrong with these. look for bargain prices and attempt to try them on before buying as the sizing can be a little different to other manufacturers

RUBBISH

They're cheap, and...that's about it.
Uncomfortable, very slow to dry.
I'd rather one pair of Mountain Hardware Packpants to a million pairs of Kiwis.

SOLID AND RELIABLE

Can be picked up for around £25 from many places.

Tough fabric with reinforced knees.

Plenty of pockets, which are well designed so as not to have contents rubbing or digging in.

Good range of colours.

Comfortable to walk in.

Come in properly sized alternatives rather than the usual S,M,L etc. and three leg lengths
Cut is quite loose which is great when dry, but a little irritating when very wet.

Free web belt is hopeless (but the belt loops will take a standard inch and a half leather belt)
Not stunningly water resistant and only reasonably quick drying.
The major plusses of these trousers are that they're cheap, hard wearing and most of all comfortable.

I'm quite happy with the fairly loose cut (except when they get really wet) and crease but it's probably worth trying before you buy. Waist sizing has been described by some as generous but a tape measure shows them to be fairly accurate unstretched, with the semi elasicated waistband allowing a little extra room so you might get away with a size smaller.

A very good trouser at half the cost of many, so you've got a good excuse to buy another pair in a different colour (I recommend the new Clay...)
